The Hidden Charges

Is it possible to contain corruption in our society? Corruption is a cancer, which every African must obtain to cure. Many new leaders when come into power declare their determination to eradicate corruption but soon they themselves become corrupt and start amassing huge wealth. Many people become materialistic and money oriented. There is no important of ethics and morals in business dealings. Many people thinking that money which coming to their pocket is good, same way many thinking that money which going out from their pocket is bad, but they dont consider the way money traveling.

This is because these kinds of people have no moral accountability to anybody; and these kinds of people have full trust on money, they strongly believing that money can hold big role their life, they believe that money can solve their current and future problems, and believing that money can give them life without problems. What can be Solve corruption? It can be only possible if people can understand and start to believe the values of ethics and morality in their life is accountable if they really start to believe in GOD, in oneness of GOD and if they really

start to live life on the way which GOD has chosen for mankind. The most important thing is person should listen and follow the good part of his heart. Laws should be made so that there is no room for discretion for politicians and bureaucrats. The role of the politician should be minimized. Application of the evolved policies should be left in the hands of independent commission or authority in each area of public interest. Cooperation of the people has to be obtained for successfully containing corruption. People should have a right to recall the elected representatives if they see them becoming unconcerned to the electorate. I wasnt surprised; fraud has become a national pastime in DR Congo. If youre ethical and upright, you are called stupid. On my opinion I think the only way corruption will be rooted out there in DR Congo and elsewhere in Africa is if we teach our children to recognize it, reject it and shame their elders. In the last 10 years, DR Congo has received billions of dollars in international aid, but questions are starting to be asked about how those donor dollars are spent. The children been born into a country recovering from war, they are at the critical stage in their development when it is easy to challenge old values, and instill new ones. But first, we have to arm them with right tools. So anyone rallying them against corruption must employ radio dramas, popular songs, games and story books. During Congolese civil war, those who survived did so. But the books wont work for everyone, like most places around the world. Corruption is enmeshed in daily human interaction; it is a function of both, poverty and greed. The government sits on top of all this playful misbehavior, unable. And in some ways unwilling to change a system that often benefits the rich and powerful. I could argue that DR Congo. Foundations, is built on theft and dispossession. The country was founded in 1867 by repatriated slaves from the Belgium who in turn disenfranchised originating populations for over a century. But I refuse to believe that our inability or disinclination to do something to overcome Corruption is only a function of history. People need to be able to speak up for their right and demand accountability from their leaders. If the social compact between the government and

the people fails, citizens, and especially the poor are forced to compromise on the quality of their livelihood, and their social, and human rights. To root out the evil of corruption from society, we need more and more courts should be opened for speedy, inexpensive so that cases dont stay in courts for years and justice need to be deliver on time especially on such issues.

Transparency International's 2005 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) More than two-thirds of the 159 nations surveyed in Transparency International - 2005 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) scored less than 5 out of a clean score of 10, indicating serious levels of corruption in a majority of the countries surveyed.
Corruption is a major cause of poverty as well as a barrier to overcoming it," said Transparency International Chairman Peter Eigen. "The two scourges feed off each other, locking their populations in a cycle of misery. Corruption must be vigorously addressed if aid is to make a real difference in freeing people from poverty."
