ALLIANCE OF STUDENTS ACHIEVING PROGRESS (ASAP) DENOUNCES LACK OF STUDENT VOICE IN SAFETY UW-MILWAUKEE CAMPUS SAFETY WEEK
MILWAUKEE, WI: Due to the illegal invalidation of the University of WisconsinMilwaukee (UWM)
Student Association (SA) 2013-2014 elections by UWM Administration, led by Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Michael Laliberte, Campus Safety Week (October 14th-17th, 2013) at UWM comes at a time where students have no recognized voice in safety at their University. Before Safety issues safety the lack of legitimate student government at UWM, the Student Association chartered the SA Committee (SAS-C) to work with other shared governance groups and the community on safety and to provide a recognized platform for students to have a voice in their safety and the of others in the UWM community.

Statement by Former Student Association Safety Committee (SAS-C) Chairwoman KC Rasch: Its disgraceful that UWM Administration didnt consider the ramifications of shutting down the recognized student voice under WI Stat. 36.09(5). A Campus Safety Week at UWM where students have no voice in their own safety and the safety of others, no platform to voice their concerns, is inexcusable.

###
The ALLIANCE OF STUDENTS ACHIEVING PROGRESS (ASAP) is a movement, currently active in the UWMilwaukee campus community. ASAP has had a long history as a political party in UW-Milwaukee Student Association Elections and in student advocacy for 20+ years. Previously known as Achieving Student Action through Progress, the name may change but our progressive values and integrity in student and shared governance advocacy will not. We remain a united movement of like-minded individuals standing up to ensure everyone has a voice. We believe in a truly shared system where all governance groups under WI Stat. 36.09 work together to advance the goals of their respective Institution, the UW-System, higher education, and the Wisconsin Idea.
