Dehydrator Recipes "Butterfinger" Bites - Dehydrator

2 cups coconut 2 cups dried apples, peeled, cored and chopped 2/3 cup peanut butter 1-1/2 tablespoons vanilla In a large bowl, combine all ingredients. Mix well. Shape into 1/2" balls. Place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry at 135 F. for 4 to 5 hours, or until firm and crisp on the outside. Makes 3 dozen.

All Purpose Tomato Sauce - Dehydrator


Wash and core 15 lbs. of ripe tomatoes (Chop in a blender) Chop or grind: 4 large green peppers 3 large onions 3 large carrots 2 garlic cloves 1 jar pimentos Mix all ingredients together, then blend in portions until smooth. Press through a strainer to remove any pulp. In a very large kettle (12 qt. or larger) or 2 smaller kettles (6 qts.) bring mixture to a boil over medium heat. Boil gently, uncovered for about 5 hours. Stir often to prevent scorching. Mixture should be thick enough to mound on a spoon. Ladle onto "five" Fruit Roll Sheets. Place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry at 140F until crisp. Powder in blender. (Tomato leathers can be powdered and used as instant soup, sauces and paste.) Add different amounts of water to make: Tomato Paste = 1 tsp. powder, 1 tsp. water Tomato Sauce = 1 tsp. powder, 3 tsp. water Tomato Soup = 1 tsp. powder, 1 tsp. water, 2 tsp. cream Tomato Juice = 1 tsp. powder, 1/2 cup water Adjust amount of water to taste for soup and juice

Apple Crisp Cookies - Dehydrator


3 cups sweet, red apples, cored and finely chopped 1 cup quick-cooking oatmeal 1/4 cup wheat germ 1 tablespoon cinnamon 1 cup plain yogurt 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

1 tablespoon honey, optional In a large bowl, combine apples, oatmeal, wheat germ and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, combine yogurt, applesauce and honey. Pour yogurt mixture over apple oatmeal mixture; blend well. Drop by tablespoon onto Solid Fruit Roll Sheets. Place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry at 135 F. for 5 hours or until cookies come off sheets easily. Turn over and dry 1 hour more.

Apple Pie & Cheese Roll-Ups - Dehydrator


4 apples, peeled, cored and chopped 3/4 cup pecans, ground 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, grated 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg In a blender, puree all ingredients. Pour onto Solid Fruit Roll Sheets. Place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry at 135 F. for 4 to 8 hours, or until leathery. Remove from sheets while still warm. Let cool. Store in dark, dry, cool place or in freezer.

Apple Walnut Cheddar Wafers - Dehydrator


1-1/4 cups whole wheat flour 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon onion powder 1/3 cup butter, softened 1-1/2 cups cheddar cheese, grated 1-1/4 cups walnuts, ground 1 cup tart green apple, grated In a large bowl, combine flour, cinnamon, salt and onion powder; blend in butter. Add cheese, walnuts and apple. Mix until well blended. Form dough into a ball. Place on a large sheet of waxed paper and shape into a log. Wrap waxed paper tightly around dough and chill 4 to 6 hours or overnight. With a serrated knife, slice dough into 1/4" rounds. Place on solid fruit roll sheets positioned in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry at 145 F. for 4 to 6 hours or until firm and crisp. Store in an air-tight container. Makes approximately 50 crackers.

Applesauce & Fruit Roll-Ups - Dehydrator


3 cups applesauce 3 cups strawberries or 2 cups applesauce 2 cups bananas In a blender, puree all ingredients. Pour onto Solid Fruit Roll Sheets. Place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry at 135 F. for 4 to 8 hours, or

until leathery. Remove from sheets while still warm. Let cool. Roll and store in dark, dry, cool place or in freezer..

Apricot-Raisin Granola Bars - Dehydrator


2 cups apricot-raisin granola 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup water 3 tablespoons butter In a small saucepan, heat brown sugar, peanut butter, and butter until melted. Stir. Add water and granola and mix well. Press into foil-lined 9" pan. Refrigerate 1 hour. Cut in bars. Place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry 6 to 10 hours at 145 F. until chewy. For faster drying, turn bars over after 4 hours.

Apricot-Raisin Granola - Dehydrator


4 cups old-fashioned oatmeal (not quick) or rolled oats 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup sunflower seeds 1/2 cup almonds, sliced 1/2 cup apricots, chopped 1/2 cup raisins Pour 4 cups oatmeal or rolled oats into bowl. Add oil and brown sugar (more sugar for sweeter bars). Toss gently until blended. Add sunflower seeds and almonds. Mix well. Sprinkle onto Solid Fruit Roll Sheets 1/2" thick. Place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry 4 to 7 hours at 145 F. until crunchy. Toss with apricots and raisins. Store in air-tight container.

Augratin Potato Chips - Dehydrator


3 cups potatoes, peeled, boiled and mashed 1-1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated 1/2 teaspoon salt Put all ingredients in a blender and mix. Spread on Solid Fruit Roll Sheets. Place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry for 4 hours. With a clean butter knife, lift entire ring off sheet, turn over and dry for 1 hour longer, or until dry enough to break into pieces.

Backpacking/Camping Goulash - Dehydrator


This makes a great backpacking meal. Once this mixture is dehydrated, it is extremely lightweight. To rehydrate, just add water, heat and serve. Lean ground beef can be substituted for ground turkey. 1 tablespoon olive oil 1-1/2 pounds lean ground turkey

1 cup onion, chopped (1/4-inch pieces) 1 teaspoon garlic, fresh 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon oregano, dried 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 1 28-ounce can tomatoes 1 7-ounce package shell or elbow macaroni (add after rehydrating) Place oil, turkey and onion in fry pan. Saute on high heat until turkey and onions are thoroughly cooked. Stir often to break mixture into small pieces. Add seasonings and tomatoes. Squeeze tomatoes into smaller pieces. Reduce heat to medium low and cook until most of liquid has evaporated. Remove from heat. Allow to cool. Lightly oil 2 Fruit Roll sheets. Spread 2 cups evenly on each sheet. Dry at 145 F. in NESCO/American Harvest Dehydratorfor 6 hours or until all pieces are thoroughly dry. Store in air-tight container. Label with name, date and weight. Seal and refrigerate up to 6 months. Shelf life is 3 weeks. Wet weight is 2 pounds. Dry weight is 10 ounces. To Rehydrate: Put contents of bag in pan, add 2 cups of boiling water, cover, stir, and allow to rehydrate for at least 30 minutes. Remove cover and cook over medium heat until any excess liquid evaporates (about 5 minutes). Stir occasionally. In separate pan, bring 2 cups water to a boil on high heat. When boiling, add shell or elbow macaroni. Stir, cover and remove from heat. Let stand 10 minutes. Add meat mixture to cooked pasta. Stir and serve. Serves 4 to 6. Barbecued Jerky - Dehydrator


2 tablespoons brown sugar 2 tablespoons white sugar 1 tablespoon oil 1/4 cup minced onion 1 cup beer 2/3 cup ketchup 2 tablespoons cider vinegar 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 2 tablespoons ground ginger 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon minced garlic 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1 teaspoon liquid smoke 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Dash of cayenne pepper 1 pound meat strips

Combine sugars, oil, and onion in a pan. Heat and stir. Reduce heat, cook until onions caramelize. Add beer. Simmer. Cool. Mix remaining ingredients together with the exception of strips. Allow at least 15 minutes for flavors to blend, then puree in blender. Add strips. Marinate at least one hour. For longer marinating time, place in refrigerator in a covered container or in an air-tight plastic bag. Remove from marinade and place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays at 145 F. Dry approximately 6 to 12 hours until chewy.

Beef Jerky Marinade - Dehydrator


Use this recipes for beef, venison, turkey or other game meats. 1 Lb. sliced meat 4 Tbsp. soy sauce 4 tsp. worcestershire sauce 1 Tbsp. tomato sauce 1 Tbsp. grated ginger root (optional) 1/4 tsp. black pepper (cayenne pepper for hotter jerky) 1 Tbsp. curry powder (optional) 2 Cloves garlic 1 Packet NESCO/American Harvest Orginal jerky seasoning 1 Packet jerky cure Marinate the meat for 4 to 6 hours, then drain. Place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays at the highest temperature for 6 to 8 hrs to dry.

Candied Strawberries - Dehydrator


1 pound fresh strawberries 1 3-ounce package strawberry gelatin 1/2 cup powdered sugar Or Substitute 1/4 cup honey 1/4 cup lemon juice Slice into 3/8" slices. Sprinkle lightly with dry strawberry gelatin, powdered sugar, or; dip in honey/lemon juice mix (1/4 cup honey mixed with 1/4 cup lemon juice). Place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry 4 hours at 135 F. until crisp.

Cherry Pineapples - Dehydrator


1 can pineapple rings, any size 1 jar maraschino cherries, any size Drain canned pineapple rings and cherries then place on paper towels for a few moments to finish absorbing any liquid. Place pineapple rings on Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator Trays and put a cherry in center of each. Dry 8-10 hours at 135 F. (off brand rings with smaller center hole work best).

Chicken Jerky - Dehydrator


1/4 cup pineapple juice 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce 1 tablespoon minced onion 1 packet Nesco/American Harvest jerky cure 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 bay leaf 1 pound chicken strips, precooked or processed Mix all ingredients together with the exception of strips. Allow flavors to blend at least 15 minutes. Add strips. Marinate at least one hour. For longer marinating time, place in refrigerator in a covered container or in an air-tight plastic bag. Remove from marinade and place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays until dry and chewy, normally 6 to 12 hours.

Chocolate Cherry Pie - Dehydrator


3/4 cup dried cherries 2 cups boiling water 3-1/2 cups chocolate ice cream, softened 3/4 cup miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 chocolate crumb crust [9"] Hot fudge ice cream topping and maraschino cherries, optional Place cherries that were dried in a Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator in small bowl; cover with boiling water. Let stand for 5 minutes; drain. In large bowl, combine ice cream, chocolate chips and cherries. Spread onto crust. Cover and freeze until firm. Slice; drizzle each piece with fudge topping and garnish with a maraschino cherry, if desired. Yield: 8 servings

Date Fig Balls - Dehydrator


1 cup dried dates 1/2 cup dried figs 1/2 cup prunes 1/2 cup raisins 1 cup crushed walnuts 1/2 cup sunflower seeds 3 tablespoons lemon juice 1 cup coconut In a food processor or food grinder, finely grind dates, figs, prunes and raisins. In a medium bowl, mix ground fruit with nuts and seeds. Stir in lemon juice. Shape into 1/2" balls. Roll in

coconut. Place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry at 135 F. for 4 to 6 hours, or until crisp on the outside. Makes about 30 balls.

Easy Fruit Rolls - Dehydrator


1 24-ounce jar applesauce, any flavor Flavor your fruit rolls with fresh, pureed fruit, powdered, flavored gelatin, or with coconut or nuts. (Get creative!) Just mix it in or sprinkle on top before drying. Wipe a Solid Fruit Roll Sheet (lightly) with any type of cooking oil. To make small roll-ups, place several tablespoons of applesauce on a sheet. Spread to 1/4" thickness, about 4" in diameter. Depending on how large you make them, 6 to 8 can fit on a fruit roll sheet. Place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator tray. Dry at 140 F approximately 5 to 7 hours or until dry and not tacky. Remove and place in a storage container. Option: Entire fruit roll sheet may be covered with applesauce mixture and then dehydrated. When dry, cut into individual serving sizes.

Fruity-Carob Bar - Dehydrator


3/4 cup dried apples 3/4 cup raisins 3/4 cup dried pears 3/4 cup dried peaches 1/2 cup dried dates 1/2 cup dried pineapple 1 cup almonds 1-1/3 cups carob chips 3/4 cup pineapple juice 1/2 cup wheat germ 1/2 teaspoon almond extract Use a Nesco Juicer Blender or Nesco Food Grinder to grind fruit, almonds and 1/3 cup of carob chips. In a separate bowl, mix remaining carob chips, pineapple juice, wheat germ and almond extract together. Combine second mixture with the first. If too dry, add more juice. Form into bars and place on solid fruit roll sheets. Place sheets in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays and dry at 135 F. for 2-1/2 hours or until firm enough to cut into 2" pieces. Then dry for 2-1/2 hours longer. Makes 30 bars.

Grandpa's Venison Jerky - Food Slicer, Dehydrator


3/4 cup soy sauce 1 tablespoon brown sugar 1 teaspoon liquid smoke 1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon minced garlic 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 pound venison strips Mix all ingredients together except venison strips. Allow flavors to blend at least 15 minutes. Add strips. Marinate at least one hour. For a longer marinating time, place in refrigerator in a covered container or an air-tight plastic bag. Remove from marinade and place in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry at 155 F. for 4 to 15 hours, depending on how thick meat is cut.

Granny Smith Granola - Dehydrator


3 Granny Smith apples 2 cups quick-cooking oatmeal 1/2 cup slivered almonds 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 tablespoon honey in 1/4 cup water 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Place quartered, peeled, cored and coarsely grated apples in a bowl with other ingredients and thoroughly mix. Place mixture on Solid Fruit Roll Sheets. Position on Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator trays and dry for 2 to 3 hours or until crunchy. For a more tender granola, add 1/4 cup vegetable oil before drying. Store in an air-tight container.

Harvest Granola - Dehydrator


5 cups rolled oats 1 cup raisins 1 cup pecans or almonds, chopped 1/2 cup wheat germ 1/2 cup dried apple, chopped 1/2 cup dried dates, chopped 1/2 cup sesame seeds 3/4 cup brown sugar 3/4 cup margarine or butter, melted 1/2 cup honey 1/3 cup oil 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon vanilla In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and mix well. Spread on solid fruit roll sheets. Place on Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator trays and dry at 145 F. for 3 to 5 hours or until crunchy. Store in an air-tight container.

Hot Dog Stew - Dehydrator


8 cups any variety stock or water 8 oz. farfalline (tiny bow) pasta 3 Hot Dogs - any variety, finely chopped

1 Bell Pepper, minced (optional) 3 cups spaghetti sauce 1/4 cup cayenne pepper (optional) 1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese Bring stock or water to a rolling boil in a large pot, stir in pasta, return to a boil; then add chopped hot dogs and Bell Pepper. Cook for 7 minutes, or until pasta is tender. Do not drain. Stir in spaghetti sauce and cayenne pepper. Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan cheese. You may serve at this time, or you may: Spread onto Solid Fruit Roll Sheets, place in your Nesco/American Harvest dehydrator on dehydrator trays, dehydrate for approximately 6 hours at 145 degrees. To rehydrate, cover with water just above level of food in pot, boil, and serve. Serves 4.

Jerky Holiday Treats - Dehydrator


This idea was sent to us by Bob Lanning of Bloomington, Indiana. Thought you might be interested. I made some beef jerky for my daughters with Valentine's Day coming up. I extruded a long strip from the small tube included in the Nesco/American Harvest Jerky Works Kit and shaped the strip into a heart. The girls really got a kick out of it. With a little imagination other shapes can be created for various occasions. Thanks, Bob!

Jerky Marinade - Dehydrator, Food Slicer


4 tablespoons soy sauce 4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon tomato sauce 1 tablespoon grated ginger root (optional) 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (more pepper for hotter jerky) 1 tablespoon curry powder (optional) 2 cloves garlic 1 packet Nesco/American Harvest jerky cure 1 pound meat strips Marinate meat for 4 to 6 hours, then drain. Place on Nesco/American Harvest dehydrator trays and dry 6 to 12 hours at 155 F. or until dry and chewy. NOTE: Use for beef, venison, and game meats. All wild game meat should be frozen for 60 days at sub-zero temperatures BEFORE DRYING to make certain all bacteria is killed.

Nesco - Quick and Easy Jerky - Dehydrator


1 pound lean ground beef (ground chuck, ground round, etc.) 1 packet Nesco/American Harvest jerky spice * 1 packet Nesco/American Harvest jerky cure Thoroughly mix meat, spice and cure together in a bowl. Form into 1/4" thick strips using the

Nesco/American Harvest Jerky Works gun. Place strips on Nesco/American Harvest dehydrator trays and dry at highest temperature setting for 5 to 8 hours, or until done. This should make about 1/2 pound of jerky when dried. Double the recipe for more jerky. If you like it spicier, add cayenne pepper. Eight flavors available: * Original * Cajun * Fajita * Pepperoni * Hot & Spicy * Teriyaki * Andouille * Cracked Pepper & Garlic

Nesco's Favorite Jerky Marinade - Dehydrator


You can make jerky marinades with many different seasonings. Here's one of our favorites. Feel free to change or substitute ingredients to your taste. Delete the cayenne pepper, if you don't like spicy foods. Spicy Teriyaki Jerky 3 pounds sliced rump roast, cut into 1/8" to 1/4" thick strips 3 packets Nesco/American Harvest Original jerky spice 2 packets Nesco/American Harvest jerky cure 1 cup teriyaki sauce 1/2 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce 2 tablespoons garlic powder 2 tablespoons onion powder 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1 tablespoon Nesco Savory Kitchen Blend (www.nesco.com) Thoroughly mix all seasonings in a blender (or by hand). Put meat and marinade sauce in a sealed storage bag and mix completely. Marinate and refrigerate for 8 to 24 hours. Turn bag to coat meat evenly. Place meat on dehydrator trays and dry at highest temperature setting for 6 to 12 hours, or until done. Makes 1-1/2 to 2 pounds of jerky when dried. Note: For spicier jerky, use Nesco/American Harvest new Hot & Spicy jerky spice!

Nutty Wheat Crackers - Dehydrator


1 cup sunflower seeds, roasted, salted 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened 1 cup whole wheat flour 1/2 cup bran cereal 2 tablespoons honey 2 tablespoons warm water In a blender, grind sunflower seeds until smooth. Place sunflower puree and butter in a

medium bowl; cream together until smooth. Add flour, bran, honey and water. Stir until well blended. Form dough into a ball. Place ball on a large sheet of waxed paper and shape into a log. Wrap waxed paper tightly around dough and chill 4 to 6 hours or overnight. With a serrated knife, slice dough into 1/4" rounds. Place on solid fruit roll sheets positioned on dehydrator trays. Dry at 145 F. for 4 to 6 hours or until firm and crisp. Store in an air-tight container. Makes approximately 50 crackers.

Orange Julius Roll-Ups - Dehydrator


1-1/2 cups applesauce 1 small apple, peeled, cored and chopped 2 teaspoons dried orange peel, ground 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla In a blender, puree all ingredients. Pour onto solid fruit roll sheets. Place on dehydrator trays and dry at 135 F. for 4 to 8 hours, or until leathery. Remove from sheets while still warm. Let cool. Roll and store in dark, dry, cool place or in freezer.

Oriental Cashews - Dehydrator


1 12-ounce can dry-roasted whole cashews 1/3 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup water 2 tablespoons garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon powdered ginger Place nuts in a 9" square pan. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over nuts. Let sit at room temperature overnight. Drain liquid from nuts and place on dehydrator tray. Dry at 145 F. for 3 to 5 hours or until nuts are crunchy. Store in an air-tight container.

Peanut Butter and Banana Graham Crackers - Dehydrator


3 ripe bananas, sliced 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter 2-1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs 1 cup peanuts, ground 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon In a large bowl, mash bananas and blend in peanut butter. Add graham cracker crumbs, peanuts and cinnamon. Mix until well blended. Form dough into a ball. Place on a large sheet of waxed paper and shape into a long rectangle. Wrap waxed paper tightly around dough and chill 4 to 6 hours or overnight. With a serrated knife, slice dough into 1/4" slices. Place on solid fruit roll sheets positioned on dehydrator trays. Dry at 145 F. for 4 to 6 hours or until firm. These are soft like cookies. Makes approximately 50 crackers.

Peanut Butter Yum Yums - Dehydrator


1/2 cup quick cooking rolled oats 1/2 cup wheat germ 1/2 cup toasted coconut, shredded 1/2 cup toasted slivered almonds, chopped 1/4 cup peanut butter 1/4 cup honey 1 teaspoon vanilla In a large bowl, with your Nesco Hand Blender combine oats, wheat germ, coconut and almonds. In a small bowl, combine peanut butter, honey and vanilla; stir into oat mixture until completely coated. With hands, form 1/4" thick patties. Place patties in your Nesco Dehydrator on lightly oiled fruit roll sheets and position on dehydrator trays. Dry for 4 to 6 hours, or until firm and crisp. Store in an air-tight container. *Option: Drizzle melted carob over top of each patty.

Raspberry Chocolate Fruit Roll-Ups - Dehydrator


1/2 cup Frozen Raspberries, thawed and drained 1/2 cup Dark Chocolate or White Chocolate Morsels, melted 1/3 cup White Grape Juice 1/2 cup Berry-flavored Applesauce Combine all ingredients in blender. Puree to smooth consistency. Spray Fruit Roll Sheet lightly with vegetable spray. Then spread puree evenly (approximately 1/4" thick) on Fruit Roll Sheet and place on tray of Nesco/American Harverst Dehydrator. Dry at 135F. for 8 to 10 hours until no sticky spots are present on top or underneath fruit. Remove fruit leather while still warm, roll and cut into bite-sized pieces (if desired). Reuben Rounds - Dehydrator


1-1/4 cups rye flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1-1/2 teaspoons caraway seeds 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened 1 cup swiss cheese, grated 1 cup sauerkraut, drained and squeezed dry In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and caraway seeds. Add butter, cheese and sauerkraut. Mix until well blended. Form dough into a ball. Place on a large sheet of waxed paper and shape into a log. Wrap waxed paper tightly around dough and chill 4 to 6 hours or overnight. With a serrated knife, slice dough into 1/4" rounds. Place on solid fruit roll sheets. Position sheets on dehydrator trays and dry at 145 F. for 4 to 6 hours or until firm and crisp. Store in an air-tight container. Makes approximately 50 crackers.

Sour Cream & Onion Potato Chips - Dehydrator


4 cups potatoes, peeled, boiled and mashed 1 cup plain yogurt 1/4 cup onion, chopped 1/2 teaspoon salt Put all ingredients in a Nesco blender or food processor and mix at high speed. Thinly spread onto solid fruit roll sheets. Place on Nesco dehydrator trays and dry at 145 F. for 4 hours or until dry on one side. With a clean butter knife, lift entire ring off sheet, turn over and dry 1 hour longer, or until it is dry enough to break into pieces.

Special Apple Snacks - Dehydrator


4 apples 1/4 cup pineapple juice 1 tablespoon sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Peel apples. Cut into 1/4" thick rings or slices. Dip slices in pineapple juice for 1 minute. Place dipped apples on a mesh-lined Clean-a-Screen positioned on a Nesco/American Harvest dehydrator tray. Mix together the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on top of apples. Dry for 6 to 10 hours at 135 F. until crisp. Cool and store in an airtight container.

1 7-ounce can whole kernel corn 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated 1/2 cup tomatoes, diced 1 tablespoon onion, chopped 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper Dash garlic powder Blend all ingredients at high speed in a blender or food processor. Spread mixture thinly onto solid fruit roll sheets. Place sheets on dehydrator trays. Dry at 145 F. for 6 to 8 hours, or until dry on one side. With a clean butter knife, lift entire ring off sheet, turn over and dry for 1 to 2 hours longer, or until crisp. Break into chips.

Tart-Banana Bars - Dehydrator


1 cup dried pineapple, finely chopped 1 cup dried apricots, finely chopped 1 cup dried peaches, finely chopped 1 cup ripe bananas, mashed 1/2 cup crushed walnuts 1/2 cup whole grain cereal flakes 3 tablespoons pineapple juice In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients and mix well. Form into bars and press on solid fruit roll sheets. Place sheets on dehydrator trays and dry in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator at 135 F. for 1 hour. Cut into 1" squares, place on dehydrator trays and dry for 3 hours more, or until bars hold together. Makes about 2 dozen.

Texas Chili Peanuts - Dehydrator


1 16-ounce jar dry-roasted, unsalted peanuts 1/2 cup water 1/4 cup Tabasco sauce 1-1/2 tablespoons chili powder 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon red pepper 1/8 teaspoon ground oregano Place nuts in a 9" square pan. In a bowl, combine remaining ingredients. Pour over nuts. Let nuts sit at room temperature overnight. Drain liquid from nuts and place nuts on in your Nesco Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. We suggest the use of a Clean-A-Screen so that the nuts do not fall through the trays. Dry at 145 F. for 3 to 5 hours or until nuts are crunchy. Store in an air-tight container.

Tropical Roll-Ups - Dehydrator


6 ripe bananas, peeled and cut into pieces 1 orange, peeled and quartered In a Nesco blender, puree all ingredients. Pour onto solid fruit roll sheets. Place sheets on in Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays and dry at 135 F. for 4 to 8 hours, or until leathery. Remove from sheets while still warm. Let cool. Roll and store in dark, dry, cool place or in freezer.

Turkey Jerky - Dehydrator


2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 tablespoons freshly grated onion 2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce 1 tablespoon white sugar 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 tablespoon fresh grated lemon peel

2 teaspoons paprika 1 teaspoon crushed garlic 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke 1/4 teaspoon Tabasco sauce 1 pound ground turkey Salt to sprinkle Mix all ingredients together, except ground meat. Allow flavors to blend at least 15 minutes. Add meat and marinate at least one hour. For longer marinating time, place in refrigerator in a covered container or in an air-tight plastic bag. Remove from bag, form into shapes and place in Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator on dehydrator trays. Dry at 155 F. for 6 to 12 hours or until chewy. Sprinkle a little extra salt on top of jerky while it's still moist.

Tutti-Frutties - Dehydrator
1/2 cup dried apples 1/2 cup dried peaches 1/4 cup dried pineapple 1/4 cup dried pears 1/4 cup dried apricots 1/4 cup almonds 1/2 cup coconut 1 teaspoon grated, dried orange peel 3 tablespoons honey 2 tablespoons orange juice 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon In a food processor, finely grind apples, peaches, pineapple, pears, apricots and almonds. Place in a medium bowl. Stir in coconut and orange peel. In a small saucepan, warm honey, orange and lemon juice and cinnamon. Stir to mix well. Slowly pour honey mixture over fruit mixture, stirring until mixture sticks together evenly. Form into 1/2" balls. Dry at 125 F in your Nesco/American Harvest dehydrator for approximately 4 to 6 hours, or until crisp on the outside. Makes about 30 balls.

Yogurt Drops - Dehydrator


Yogurt, any flavor Thicker brands of commercial yogurt dry best. Drop by teaspoons on lightly oiled Solid Fruit Roll Sheets. For fun, sprinkle drops with chopped peanuts or coconut before drying in your Nesco/American Harvest Dehydrator. Place on dehydrator trays and dry 8 to 16 hours at 135 F. Remove from sheet while warm. Let cool. Store in refrigerator or freezer.

Zucchini Pineapple Chips - Dehydrator


4 cups peeled zucchini (1/4-inch slices) 12-ounces pineapple juice (two 6-ounce cans) 3/4 cup sugar 1Tbsp. lemon juice Place pineapple juice, sugar and lemon juice in 2-quart saucepan. Stir and bring to full boil on high heat. Reduce heat to medium-high and add fresh, sliced zucchini pieces. Press all slices into liquid. Boil lightly for 10 to 15 minutes or until slices turn an olive green color. Gently pour into large strainer and drain. Allow to cool. Place slices on NESCO American Harvest dehyrator trays lined with Clean-A-Screen sheet and dry at 135 F. for 3 to 5 hours. Dry until crisp. Yield: 1 cup dried chips Note: Foods feel softer when warm. To test for dryness, remove a few pieces and allow to cool before testing for crispness. To intensify flavor, leave cooked zucchini marinate in liquid for a few days. The dried product tastes like a sweet, zucchini pickle. The tender peels may be left on smaller zucchini, if desired. For larger zucchini, remove seeds before using.
