About NERTU
The Research and Training Unit for Navigational Electronics (NERTU), is the focal point for research and training in the area of Electronic Navigation in India. Since 1982, NERTU has successfully executed 39 sponsored/consultancy projects. Currently, 6 projects in different areas related to Navigational Electronics are under progress. It has also conducted 48 short term courses/ workshops on various facets of electronic navigation and the present one is the 49th Course.

Course Overview
Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is a satellite based navigation and timing system that provides precise three dimensional position of a user receiver anywhere on the Earth. There are two GNSS systems currently in operation, the U.S. Global Positioning System (GPS) and the Russian GLObal NAvigation Satellite System (GLONASS). A third GNSS named GALILEO is currently being developed in Europe. Besides these three constellations, China and India are also developing their own navigation satellite constellations namely Compass Navigation Satellite System (CNSS) and Indian Regional Navigational Satellite System (IRNSS) respectively. On the other hand, GPS is being modernized with the introduction of new signals, to benefit the civilian users with improved accuracy. Based on these, state-of-art GNSS receivers are being developed. The course is aimed to create awareness about this fast emerging field among engineers, scientists, academicians and students. The course is useful not only to the researchers in the field but also to those who want to refresh the knowledge in this area.

The number of participants is limited and the selection is on a first-cum-first served basis.
