Animation Dynamics offers state-of-the-art, computer-generated animation to Fortune 500 firms and independent film producers, but the creative staff often starts the process the old fashioned way: with hand-drawn sketches and storyboards. To share those concepts early in the process, the firm turns to its new HP Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter for professional quality color up to 50% lower cost per page than lasers.1

SPEED MATTERS Animation Dynamics (ADi), located in Portland, Ore., offers a wide range of animation techniques, including rendering digital prototypes. It all starts, though, in one-on-one meetings with the client. That is where ADis creative solutions are initially expressed to clients, in words and on paper.

The seven-member firm shares a single printer with the built-in wireless2 and Ethernet networking. In the past, Hoffman and Nimmoor would need to begin printing documents an hour or more early because their previous printer was so slow. If someone had a last-minute addition or change to a concept or presentation, it either got left out of the presentation or forced a delay in the meeting. That is rarely a problem with the new Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter, with print speeds of up to 20 pages per minute in black, 16 ppm in color.3 I want our clients to have the best possible experience when they come to our office, notes Hoffman. Having a printer that can print really quickly and produce professional output is important for us. Its how we present our work. EFFICIENT, LOW-COST PRINTING For a small firm every dollar matters, and printing with the Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter is far more efficient than the printer it replaced. It costs up to 50 percent less to operate than comparable laser printers,1 because it uses both ink and energy so efficiently. Our old printer had a tendency to go through color cartridges very fast, recalls Hoffman. We ran through a lot of cyan, and when that one color ran out, we couldnt print. Not any more. The Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter has four separate ink cartridges, so running out of a single color doesnt mean ADi has to throw away remaining supplies of the other three. There is less waste. In addition, the Officejet Pro simply uses less ink to produce quality color. It doesnt over-saturate the paper the way our old printer did, recalls Nimmoor. On pages with large, full-color images we would get pages sodden with ink; they were wrinkly and wavy. We know were using less ink now simply because we dont need to change the ink cartridges as often.

The very first time I used it, I was surprised. Its certainly more environmentally friendly, so weve stuck with it, says Nimmoor. For the environmentally conscious, the Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter is ENERGY STAR-qualified, using up to 50% less energy4 and up to 70% less packaging and supplies by weight than laser printers.5

SUPPORT FOR MOBILE PRINTING One of the biggest changes with the Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter is its support for mobile printing from smart phones and tablets virtually anywhere using HP ePrint6 and inside the office with Apple Airprint.7 In the past, someone who chose to spend the day working from home still might feel they had to come into the office sometime to print out documents for sharing, says Nimmoor. He can draw on his tablet at home, and shoot over the drawings for us to check out. Its an extension of his office.
