ABOUT CPRI

Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) is the power house of the Indian electrical
industry. Set up in 1960 by the Government of India, it functions as a centre for
applied research in electrical power engineering assisting the electrical industry in
product development and quality assurance. CPRI also serves as an independent
authority for testing and certification of power equipment. CPRI's governing body
includes eminent professionals from industries and utilities, prestigious academic
and research institutions and the government. It employs over 300 highly qualified
and experienced engineers and scientists besides other supporting staff.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The electrical power sector utilises various materials during power generation ,
transmission and distribution . Coal, fuel oil , gas, diesel, etc., are used as fuel for
power generation. Metals like copper, aluminium, steel etc., are used as
conductors. Ceramics and composite polymer materials are used as solid
insulation. Petroleum oils and other synthetic liquids are used as liquid insulating
materials widely in the area of transmission and distribution of electric power.
Water of different quality are required for the different purposes like coolant,
production of steam etc. In the recent times use of semiconductors and allied
materials have taken their place in renewable energy production. Air quality
analysis is done to ascertain the atmospheric pollution levels.
Design and operation of electric equipment are all based on the quality analysis of
the materials that are used in the electric power industry. Minimum quality
acceptance of each and every material is thus required to be evaluated. These
measurement are done by use of various instruments based on the principles and
theory of analytical chemistry. Further these analytical techniques are also used to
monitor the health of the electrical equipment and for material failure analysis. Many
modern and versatile analytical techniques are used to perform qualitative and
quantitative analysis. Isolating the set error limits, validation and verification of
results through calibration and standardization are important procedures in
current analytical instrumentation.
This conference will provide a forum for students, researchers, academicians and
practicing professionals to discuss the principles, theory, advancements and
utilisation of analytical instrumentation techniques such as FTIR, WDXRF, GC,
GCMS, SEM, XRD, HPLC, AAS, Ion Chromatography, ICP-MS, NMR, UV Visible
spectrophotometer , Thermal analysis, and other techniques in power sector.
