QUESTION BANK (Unit 3 and Unit 4) Unit 3 Projection of Solids 1. A hexagonal pyramid side of base 35 mm and base 50 mm long, rests with one of the edges of base on HP and its axis is inclined 30o to HP and parallel to VP. Draw its projections. 2. A tetrahedron of 40 mm side rests with one of its edges on HP and perpendicular to VP. The triangular face containing that edge is inclined at 30o HP. Draw its projections. 3. A right pentagonal pyramid of base side 20 mm and axis 60 mm long, rests on one of its edges of the base in HP, the base being lifted up until the highest corner in it is 20 mm above HP. Draw the projections of the pyramid where the edge on which it rests is made perpendicular to VP. 4. A hexagonal pyramid of 26 mm side of base and 70 mm rests on HP on one of its base edges such that the triangular face containing the resting edge is perpendicular to both HP and VP. 5. A cone of base diameter 40 mm and altitude 50 mm rests on its base on the HP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 80o to HP, passing through the apex. A cylinder of base diameter 40 mm and height 50 mm rests on its base on the HP, it is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 50o to HP. Draw the front and top views of the cube and determine the inclination of the plane with the HP. 7. A section plane perpendicular to VP cuts the tetrahedron such that the true shape of section is an isosceles triangle of base 50 mm and altitude 36 mm. Draw the elevation, sectional plan and the true shape of section. 10. A pentagonal prism of side of base 28 mm and axis 62 mm long rests on HP on one of its ends with a rectangular face parallel to VP and nearer to the observer. Through the center of the rectangular face containing the base edge a hole of 32 mm is drilled through such that the hole axis horizontal. Draw the development of lateral surface of prism. 12. A hexagonal pyramid of side of base 24 mm and altitude 56 mm rests with its base on HP with an edge of base parallel to VP. A through circular hole of 24 mm diameter is drilled in the pyramid such that the axis of this hole is perpendicular to VP and cuts the axis of the pyramid 16 mm above base. Develop the lateral surface of the pyramid with the true shape of cut hole in it. 13. A cone of base 50 mm diameter and height 60 mm rests with its base on HP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP parallel to one of the generators and passing through a point on the axis at a distance of 22 mm from the apex. Draw the sectional top view and develop the lateral surface the remaining portion of the cone.

14. A vertical chimney of 70 cm diameter joins a roof sloping 35 o to horizontal. The shortest portion over the roof is 32 cm. Obtain the shape of the sheet metal from which the chimney can be fabricated. 15. A cylinder of diameter 40 mm, height 75 mm is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 55o to HP, meeting the axis at top face. Draw the lateral development of the solid. 16.
