Togo Africa and Cambodia

Goal #1: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger

Cambodia
Improvements in poverty rates in urban and more accessible rural areas Improved urban access to safe water and rural access to improve sanitation High rural poverty rates Poverty rate improvements. Improvement to access to safe water.

Togo Africa

National poverty line is 58.7% ( percent of the nation in poverty). in 2006 the poverty line was 61.7% Improvement of water supply. ( % of rural areas with clean water access). It has gone from 37% in 2007 to 40% in 2012.

Goal #2: Achieve Universal Primary Education


Cambodia

More children going to primary school


failure to increase net net enrollments at higher levels limited progress beyond primary education

Increase of students attending primary school Togo is making more adjustments to allow students such as school fees Primary education is increasing in Togo at a higher rate

Togo Primary School (% gross) 145% Africa


in 2012 Literacy Rate is 75.4% for males and 46.9% for females. In the year 2008 the government got rid of all school fees

With government paying for everything classrooms are minimally stocked and many dont even have electricity
Primary education is about 5 years long

Goal #3: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women


Cambodia
High levels of domestic violence against women
Less in secondary and tertiary education There are been increase of women in education from Togo Both countries deal with high level of domestic violence Cambodia hasnt made great impacts to improve equality for women

Togo The number of women being Africa educated has increased


dramatically. In past years less than half of all women in Togo were uneducated and illiterate.

However, there is great discrimination against women


Rape and other sexual abuse

Female genital mutilation Several pieces of legislation has been past in an effort to create equality for women.

Goal #4: Reduce Child Mortality


Cambodia
Mortality rate has risen to 124 deaths in every 1,000 live births There is a higher rate of mortality rate in Cambodia than Togo Africa Small improvements are been made in Togo Africa

Togo Africa
Mortality rate, for children age 5 and under, was 98 out of every 1000 births. It has since dropped to 8 out of every 1000.

Goal #5: Improve Maternal Health


Cambodia
Low access to quality health services New programs have been implemented to improve Maternal Health Making it more affordable Both countries are dealing with large amounts of maternal health problems Cambodia making everything more affordable

Togo Africa

Pregnancy in people age 18 and below is 2.6% of all accounted pregnancies

Only about 2% of pregnant women have 10 perinatal visits or more Ultrasounds are very rare in Togo

Goal #6: Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other Diseases


Cambodia
HIV rates among adult population has fallen from 3.3% to 2.6% improve immunization against major childhood diseases environmental degradation; forest depletion and water resources

Both countries are improving against diseases Cambodia is making environmental efforts to improve prevention of diseases

Togo Africa

In december of 2004, hundreds of vaccines were given to children in Togo for free. These vaccines were mostly for malaria and measles( both major causes of death in children). Many other efforts to vaccinate have occurred in recent years. The approximate number of people living with AIDS/HIV is 1.2 million compared to the entire U.S at 2.9 million.

Goal #7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability


Cambodia
Making more access to water for rural areas
Trying to reduce CO2 emissions through various programs Better sanitation for water and food produce Water sanitation is being improved by both countries CO2 is affecting and efforts are being made to improve the environment

Togo Africa

They have been working on water sanitation.

Africa has been working on reducing CO2 emissions and substance that would harm the ozone.

Develop a Global Partnership


Cambodia Despite two decades of war they have made good improvements in all aspects. Various countries are contributing to their efforts and even though are several obstacles ahead, they are ready to proceed forward to a brighter future.

Togo
Togo has received extensive help from many different countries in their effort to accomplish the millennium development goals. They have made great strides in all aspects and will continue to do so.
