NATIONAL SEMINAR ON

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR INCLUSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE GROWTH

14th 15th DECMBER 2013

NO DEVELOPMENT IS TRUE DEVELOPMENT UNLESS IT IS FOUNDED IN TRUTH AND NON VOILENCE Mahatma Gandhi

Right from independence, the government of India is committed to the creation and development of democratic society. Owing to this philosophy of constitution, government has decided to promote welfare of people through the process of robust industrialisation. The role of public sector in the promotion of public welfare is significant as compare to the private sector. The 21st century has witnessed dramatic changes in domain of corporate governance, corporate social responsibility and business ethics. JRD Tata once said that social obligation of business and industry is beyond the accepted routine duties of making a good product and selling it at a fair price, paying fair wages, providing good working conditions to labour and paying them in full. CSR begins where the law ends. CSR is the obligation of the corporation for the impact of its decisions and action on society and environment through the transparent and ethical behaviour that is consistent inclusive and sustainable development. The recent overhauling of the company Act suggests that Indian economic system is advancing towards the Gandhian philosophy of Trusteeship. Milton Friedman thesis which recommended that business has only economic obligation and social obligation is the responsibility of Government has been overruled by the recent amendment in the Company Act. Now it is mandatory to the listed companies to spend 2% of its past three years average profits on CSR activities. In this changed scenario it is imperative to organise an International Seminar on this vibrant theme. SEMINAR THEME: CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR INCLUSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE GROWTH
