Introduction
Piping loops had been stress analyzed according to supports marked in isometrics provided by
HWB and twenty-six loops did not qualify the design adequacy re-evaluation. For these loops,
retrofitting has been proposed. The piping stress analysis has been carried out again for these
loops incorporating the proposed retrofitting. This report presents the retrofitting arrangements,
the results and conclusions of the piping stress analysis after incorporating these changes in
these twenty-six piping loops. The isometrics marked with retrofit modifications are in a separate
CD. The relevant EIL piping support standards are included in the Appendix and may be
referred for the support details.
1. The analysis has been carried out at design temperature, when normally wind and
seismic should be analyzed at operating conditions. Further the sustained and thermal
load cases should also be analysed.
2. The plant was designed as per B31.3 but the re-evaluation was requested to be carried
out as per ASME Section III, ND Class. Stress in piping has been checked as per ASME
Section-III ND Class. However HWB may ensure flexibility checking as per ANSI B 31.3,
before retrofitting as it was the original code for piping design in HWP (Manuguru).
3. The status of guides and other supporting (especially those on pipe racks were not
known, as isometrics for the same was not available, and some assumptions have been
made). The same needs to be first confirmed at site before any modification can be
carried out.
It should be noted that modifications in a plant running successfully for three decades
should be carried out with extreme care. This is applicable more so for piping because
guiding, restraining or strengthening a particular section may result in transfer of loads to
another section of piping or equipment nozzles not only for wind and seismic cases but
thermal case as well.

2.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for the piping from nozzles N1 & N2 of
Exchangers (12-E-109/209 & 12-E-110/210) to nozzle F2 of 1st Stage Cold Tower (12-C106/206) after proposed retrofitting modifications.
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases are
marginally exceeding the allowable stresses. Hence the system may be deemed to qualify the
design adequacy re-evaluation after retrofitting.

3.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for the piping from the nozzle N1 of
Exchangers (12-E-102/202 & 12-E-104/204) TO nozzle F2 of 12-V-102/202 after proposed
retrofitting modifications.
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases are within
the allowable stresses. Hence the system may be deemed to qualify the design adequacy reevaluation after retrofitting.

4.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for 2CT Transfer pumps discharge to 3CT (12C-111/211) feed inlet & 2HT (12-C-110/210) feed inlet after proposed retrofitting modifications.
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases are
marginally exceeding the allowables. Hence the system may be deemed to quality the design
adequacy re-evaluation after retrofitting.
It is to be noted that the stresses in the system are marginally exceeding the allowables only at
the tee connection (Caesar Node No. 255), where the thickness of branch connection is 3.08
mm. If this tee connection is replaced with one having the thickness of the branch 4.0 mm or
more, the stresses reduce to less than allowables.

5.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for XU-I product transfer to XU-II after proposed
retrofitting modifications.
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases are
marginally exceeding the allowable stresses. Hence the system may be deemed to qualify the
design adequacy re-evaluation after retrofitting.

6.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for piping from 2nd Stage Hot Tower Discharge
Pump 12-P-117/217 to Dump Tank (12-V-104/204) & 1st Stage Hot Tower (12-C-107/207) after
proposed retrofitting modifications.
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases marginally
exceed the allowable stresses. Hence the system may be deemed to qualify the design
adequacy re-evaluation after retrofitting.

7.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for 2nd Stage Liquid re-dump line to 2HT (12-C108) after proposed retrofitting modifications.

8.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for the piping from Pumps (12-P-124/224A/S)
discharge to nozzle N2 of Exchanger(12-E-123/223) and nozzle N1 of Exchanger (12-E123/223) to nozzle R of 3rd Stage Cold Tower (12-C-111/211) after proposed retrofitting
modifications.
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases are within
the allowable stresses. Hence the system may be deemed to qualify the design adequacy reevaluation after retrofitting.

9.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out from pump 12-P-123/223
to 12-E-119/219
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases are within
the allowable stresses. Hence the system may be deemed to qualify the design adequacy reevaluation after retrofitting.

10.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for the piping Pumps (12-P-122/222A/S)
discharge to nozzle N1 & N2 of exchanger 12-E-118/218A/B , nozzle N7 of exchanger 12-E117A and nozzle F1 of 3rd Stage Hot
modifications.
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases are
marginally exceeding the allowables. Hence the system may be deemed to quality the design
adequacy re-evaluation after retrofitting.

11.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for the piping from nozzle N1 of Exchanger
(12-E-120/220) to nozzle F1 of 3rd Stage Cold Tower (12-C-111/211) after proposed retrofitting
modifications.
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases are within
the allowable stresses. Hence the system may be deemed to qualify the design adequacy reevaluation after retrofitting.

12.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for piping loop from 3HT transfer pumps(12-P120) discharge to 3CT (12-C-111) after proposed retrofitting modifications.
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases marginally
exceed the allowable stresses. Hence the system may be deemed to qualify the design
adequacy re-evaluation after retrofitting.

13.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for piping loop from 3HT (12-C-110/210) liquid
dump to dump tank 12-V-106 after proposed retrofitting modifications.
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases marginally
exceed the allowable stresses. Hence the system may be deemed to qualify the design
adequacy re-evaluation after retrofitting.

17.3 CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for the piping from product stripper O/L nozzle
N4 to nozzle N8 of exchanger (12-E-125/225) & nozzle N3 of Exchanger (12-E-124/224)
after proposed retrofitting modifications.
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases marginally
exceed the allowable stresses. Hence the system may be deemed to qualify the design
adequacy re-evaluation after retrofitting.

CONCLUSION
The piping stress analysis has been carried out for Vent header from individual drain tanks to
common B/L valve of drain pit after proposed retrofitting modifications.
The results indicate that the stresses for the individual wind and seismic load cases are within
the allowable stresses. Hence the system may be deemed to qualify the design adequacy reevaluation after retrofitting.
