Hamilton Setende Report on Employment equity and balance.

How are companies supposed to restore the employment equity balance? Employment Equity: Is a policy that focuses on favoring or giving preference when it comes to employment opportunities to qualified people from sectors of society that were formerly disadvantaged or discriminated against, for eg: black people, woman and physical challenged people. South Africa is a good example of a country, where a large group of the population was previously discriminated against and excluded from employment opportunities. South Africas policy of apartheid, gave advantage to mainly white males and left other racial groups especially blacks, with less opportunities and therefore disadvantaged. In order to correct these ills of the past, policies such as the employment equity act have been drawn up and companies etc. are required to implement this act and other policies in order to restore the employment equity balance. How are companies supposed to restore the employment equity balance? By employing the employment act effectively, companies are then able to promote affirmative action, which allows them to take steps to give better opportunities for black people, woman and people with disabilities. Companies are required to work out what could be the factors within the company that could impede previously disadvantaged workers from advancing in the company or getting employed in the company and devise measures to tackle those problems and promote diversity in the work place that is based on equal dignity and respect for all people. Companies are also required to have representatives of the different groups that would work closely with the company and management to identify their needs and ensure that workers are confortable in the company. Companies must be able to provide their workers with a working environment whereby everyone from different social groups can enjoy equal opportunities and there is a well balance of representation. There should be mechanism available that ensure that the right qualified people are employed and that there is a proper representation of previously disadvantaged groups and paths are created so that this people can have the same opportunities to grow in the company as other groups and be able to hold high positions of management if they meet

the requirements, there should not be any favoritism for any social group, everyone should be looked at as being equal and therefore provided with the same opportunities.
