From the best-selling author of The Pursuit of Holiness comes a thought-provoking look at legalism, discipleship, and spiritual freedom. Note separate study guide available. Experience the joy that comes with personal revival! Did you know that revival means a complete transformation of your heart that impacts your home, church, and the world? In Seeking Him, Nancy Leigh DeMoss shows you the way toward freedom and the genuine holiness that comes from humility, repentance, and forgiveness. Each week of this 12-week interactive study has five days of individual study to be done at home, followed by group questions and testimonies. There's also a "Making It Personal" section for you to delve into more questions and exercises. Paperback. Scripture reveals that the great business of life is to glorify God by enjoying Him forever. Now revised and expanded, Desiring God reveals how delighting in God can motivate us to glorify Him through worship, stewardship, loving our neighbor, rejoicing in suffering, and other "duties." John Piper reveals that the debate between duty and delight doesn't truly exist: Delight is our duty. Discover how to lay a biblical foundation for a life of celebration by truly desiring the Lord. Let this mind be in you, which also was in Christ Jesus. How do we get the mind of Christ? Hunt explains how God works within you, continually renewing and reshaping your mind to reflect his. Plenty of practical ideas apply "mind-renewal" to everyday life: work, family, relationships. If you long for Christlikeness in your thought life, this book is for you. 192 pages, softcover from B&H. What are the earmarks of a mature believer---and how do you cultivate them? Drawing on 2 Peter 1, Berg explores the core virtues of Christlikeness---knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, kindness, and love. His heart-searching questions and clear applications will help you lay the foundation for true biblical maturity. Includes leader's and study guides. 276 pages, softcover from JourneyForth. We aren't born to stay the way we are. But how many times have we looked around us in dismay at the lack of spiritual maturity in fellow believers? It is evident in the rising rate of divorces among Christian couples. We find it in the high percentages of Christians, even pastors, who regularly view pornography. And we face it each time a well-known leader in the Christian community is found in sexual sin or handling finances dishonestly. Perhaps you have struggled with your own character issues for years, even decades, to little avail. There is good news. In Renovation of the Heart best-selling author Dallas Willard calls it "the transformation of the spirit" - a divine process that "brings every element in our being, working from inside out, into harmony with the will of God or the kingdom of God." In the transformation of our spirits, we become apprentices of Jesus Christ. As Christians, we believe that all sins are considered equal in God's eyes. Yet while evangelicals continue to decry the Big Ones---such as abortion, adultery, and violence---we often overlook more deceptive sins. It seems we've created a sliding scale where gossip, jealousy, and selfishness comfortably exist within the church. In short, some sins have simply become acceptable. Bridges, bestselling author of The Pursuit of Holiness, believes that just as culture has lost the concept of sin, the

church faces the same danger. Jerry writes not from a sense of achievement, but from the trenches of his own personal battles. Drawing from scriptural truth, he sheds light on subtle behaviors that can derail our spiritual growth. Throughout, Jerry encourages a victory over personal sin through the gospel's transforming power, the perfect release for those who desire to thoughtfully examine their lives and discover a deeper walk with God. What does holiness look like? For starters, it doesn't look anything like perfection. And it doesn't necessarily look like victory. Mostly, it consists of effort, prayer, grace, and obedience. "Scripture speaks of both a holiness we have in Christ before God, and a holiness we are to strive after," writes Bridges. We can ignore neither Christ's role nor our own if we are to successfully pursue holiness. It is as simple as refusing to smudge the truth on a tax return or as complicated as forgiving the person who has most viciously hurt us. Bridges takes holiness out of the realm of the impossible and brings it into the real world of your daily life and decisions. Whether you're continuing your pursuit of holiness or just beginning, the principles and guidelines in The Pursuit of Holiness will challenge you to obey God's command of holiness. In this provocative work Pastor Piper challenges us to set aside the trivial pursuit of self-fulfillment so that we can develop a deeper passion for God. Piper believes that if we passionately submit the sufferings we endure, the risks we take, and the goals we set to the pursuit of God's glory, then not one moment of our lives will be wasted. Don't miss this opportunity to rekindle your passion for the cross of Christ and the glory of God. Study/Discussion guide available. 8 studies for individuals or groups with notes for leaders on verses from the book of John, chapters 15, 16 and 17, focus on the transformational results of being in relationship with Jesus. Some examples of what it means to abide in Christ are: always to be resting on him, anchored to him, fixed in him, drawing from him, continually connected and in touch with him. There is no more precious lesson to learn than this. Abiding in Christ brings peace, joy and love, answers to prayer, and fruitfulness in service. The abiding life is the abundant life. Part of the Lifeguide Bible Study Series. Discipline is one of those things that looks great on paper. The idea of making progress - especially in the area of your relationship with God - is highly motivating. The trouble is, discipline is difficult. It involves struggle. And it never seems to fit naturally into our busy schedules. Ideal for personal or small-group use, this companion guide to Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life will take you through a carefully selected array of disciplines including: scripture reading, stewardship, prayer, worship, serving, stewardship, fasting, and much more! Used in conjunction with the GPC Journey of Faith discipleship notebook (available from the church), this study helps provide an excellent foundation for every believer. You enjoy an active lifestyle and, despite your best intentions, prayer sometimes receives short shrift in your busy day. This guided journal, together with Hybels's bestseller, equips you with the means and the motivation to develop a regular prayer and devotional life. Features insightful Bible studies, journaling guidelines, prayer suggestions, and reflection questions. 126 pages, softcover from InterVarsity. Are you passionate about your walk with Jesus? Why is it often easier to be excited about hobbies, sports, homes, and occupations than about our faith? Walk As Jesus Walked: Making Disciples, a small group DVD curriculum, presents teacher and historian Ray Vander Laan on location with faith lessons from the first disciples. You and your small group will be inspired and motivated as you learn what discipleship means, who can be a disciple, how to be a disciple, and what to expect as a disciple.

Encouraging One Another

Description
Encouraging One Another is Gene Getz's study of one of the most dominant themes in the New Testament: encouraging one another. And just as the Book of Acts and the Epistles show, encouraging one another is basic to the process of starting churches as well as developing maturity. Explore, with Dr. Getz, twelve significant "one another" commands of the New Testament and follow the practical steps for developing them in your own life and in the life of your church. It's a long-term building process, but one that pleases God and reaps rewards not just in this lifetime but in the next. The body of Christ can't be all that it should be unless we mature in our interpersonal relationships as the Bible commands. Building Up One Another has been helping believers do just that since 1976, when this best seller was first published. This book, the cornerstone of his well known "One Another Series" has now been thoroughly updated and rewritten and for the first time includes a personal and group study guide. This 12 session Study Guide helps individuals and small groups identify the deeper issues that keep relationships less than they are designed to be. Based on principles from the book, Relationships: A Mess Worth Making, this new addition to CCEF's curriculum gives practical direction on how to resolve conflicts, have difficult conversations, grant forgiveness, overlook weaknesses, and celebrate strengths. The self-explanatory Facilitator's Guide gives directions for leading others through the Study Guide." With penetrating insight and practical applications, Relationships:A Mess Worth Making identifies how to work through the most stubborn problems that plague any contemporary relationship - be it marriage, parent-child, or friendship. Authors Paul David Tripp and Timothy S. Lane identify the deeper issues that drive a wide range of beliefs and behaviors that keep relationships less than they are designed to be. The self-explanatory Facilitator's Guide gives directions for leading others through the Study Guide. In many ways, the church today has more consumers than committed participants. We see church merely as an event we attend or an organization we belong to, rather than as a calling that shapes our entire life. Many of us would be relieved if God had place dour sanctification in the hands of trained professionals, but that simply is not the biblical model. Gods plan is that through the faithful ministry of every part, the whole body will grow to maturity in Christ. Tripp explains how his work follows an "all of my people, all of the time" model. If you followed the Lord for a thousand years, you would still need the ministry of the body of Christ as much as you did the day you first believed. This need will remain until our sanctification is complete in Glory. This is a comprehensive treatment of how God uses people as tools of change in the lives of others, people who themselves are in need of change. If the apostle Paul wrote a letter to your congregation---what would he commend it for? Creative activities? Exponential growth? The size of the budget? It's a sobering question to ponder. Learn how your church sizes up to biblical standards and God's definition of greatness with this classic previously titled The Measure of a Church. 144 pages, softcover from Moody.

Master Plan of Evangelism

Description
Discover the ultimate model for sharing the ultimate message! Convinced that studying the Master would help to spread the gospel, Coleman set out to show that Jesus offered the best blueprint for fulfilling the Great Commission. Two million copies later, this slim volume is still best for teaching Christ-centered evangelism. Foreword by Billy Graham. 142 pages, softcover from Spire. Every believer in Jesus Christ deserves the opportunity of personal nurture and development," says LeRoy Eims. But all too often the opportunity isn't there. We neglect the young Christian in our whirl of programs, church services and fellowship groups. And we neglect to raise up workers and leaders who can disciple young believers into mature and fruitful Christians. In simple, practical, and biblical terms, LeRoy Eims revives the lost art of disciple making. He explains:

Lost Art of Disciple Making

How the early church discipled new Christians How to meet the basic needs of a growing Christian How to spot and train potential workers How to develop mature, godly leaders "True growth takes time and tears and love and patience," Eims states. There is no instant maturity. This book examines the growth process in the life of a Christian and considers what nurture and guidance it takes to develop spiritually qualified workers in the church. Loving One Another by Gene Getz We can't truly love unbelievers until we first love one another. Evangelism didn't begin with the Great Commission. It actually started in the Upper Room when Jesus told His disciples to love one another as He loved them. Unless we understand that, we cannot comprehend the evangelistic nature of the letters written to the New Testament churches and our own present-day churches won't be the dynamic witnessing bodies that the Lord intended them to be. This new edition of this classic book includes a personal and group study guide. Learn what it means to live as a member of a caring, Christ-centered community. Then be prepared to watch that infectious love overflow into an effective witness to the community beyond. All Christians are called. Called to love God with all that we are. Called to serve Him. Called to reach out to the lost. However, when we're honest, the majority of us would admit that we find this last calling the most difficult. We gladly support the evangelistic ministries of others, but most of us feel discouraged by our own attempts at witnessing because our memorized approaches don't seem to work. This biblical study of evangelism gracefully reminds us all that the New Testament model of witnessing is not onesize-fits-all. With compassion for the lost filling every page, Jerram Barrs shows us the variety of approaches used in the New Testament. There the same true, timeless, unchanging Gospel was presented as differently as the audience, calling us to follow its example. You can learn to witness comfortably in your own circumstances so that sharing Christ doesn't feel like a chore. And as you watch God work in the lives of others and see the great blessings He brings, you'll discover what a privilege it is to live out the heart of evangelism: truly loving others to Christ. If the apostle Paul wrote a letter to your congregation---what would he commend it for? Creative activities? Exponential growth? The size of the budget? It's a sobering question to ponder. As personal cupbearer to the great Persian king Artaxerxes, Nehemiah lived a life of incredible luxury. Yet, despite his pagan environment, he never forsook the Lord. When he heard of the destruction of Jerusalem, Nehemiah gave up the pleasures of the royal court to take on the seemingly impossible task of rebuilding the city. He knew he could never manage such a crisis alone. His only chance was in humbly seeking God's help. His attitude reminds us that even in our moments of greatest pain and helplessness, we still have access to God. Like Nehemiah, we must pray persistently and specifically. Then God will bless us beyond anything we can imagine. Wondering what God's purpose is for your life? Leadership expert Malphurs empowers you to find out---and reach your full potential in ministry! Practical Theology & Doctrine Title Description

From Rudolf Otto's mysterium tremendum to Martin Luther's "insanity" and Jonathan Edwards's fiery sermons, Sproul's classic offers an accessible exploration of history and Scripture that will help you understand---and live with---the tension between God's terrifying holiness and his inexplicable grace. Sproul explains, "How we understand the person and character of God the Father affects every aspect of our lives....God is inescapable. There is no place we can hide from Him. Not only does He penetrate every aspect of our lives, but He penetrates it in his majestic holiness. Therefore we must seek to understand what the holy is. We dare not seek to avoid it. There can be no worship, no spiritual growth, no true obedience without it. It defines our goal as Christians. God has declared, "Be holy, because I am holy" (Lev. 11:44). To reach that goal, we must understand what holiness is." Allow one of the all-time classic works on God's character to guide you more deeply into the presence of God as you respond to God's holiness. This edition of Sproul's work includes challenging study questions for individuals or small groups. J. I. Packer's Knowing God has become a classic of the Christian faith. Why? While it gives us information about God with clarity and grace, it does much more---it aids us in actually knowing him, in building our relationship with him, and helps draw us closer to him in love and worship. This 20th anniversary deluxe hardcover edition of Packer's classic has new Americanized text, readerfriendly type, a new preface, and the complete study guide. Note. This is a challenging study and will require serious study and commitment to complete. Similar to the author's Manual of Christian Doctrine, this volume offers a simpler and briefer presentation of Christian doctrine geared especially to high school students. Technical terms and detailed explanations have been avoided, and important Scripture passages are printed in full. Includes review questions. God doesn't call every Christian to go off to seminary, but there are certain matters of doctrine---that is, the church's teaching---that every Christian simply must know. Theology is important because what we believe affects how we live. If you're a relatively new believer in Jesus, or if you're a more mature Christian looking for a quick brush-up on basics of the faith, Christian Beliefs is for you. This readable guide to twenty basic Christian beliefs is a condensation of Grudem's Systematic Theology. He and his son, Elliot, have boiled down the essentials of Christian theology for the average layperson and made them both clear and applicable to life. You will learn about the Bible, the characteristics of God, what it means that we are created in the image of God, what God has done for us in Christ, the purpose of the church, and much more. Each chapter includes questions for personal review or group discussion. With the layperson in mind, Dr. Sproul offers a basic understanding of the Christian faith that is interesting, informative, and easy to read. Sproul provides brief explanations of biblical concepts every Christian should know in language everyone can understand. Highlighted with homespun analogies, the more than 100 doctrines treated are categorized under major headings for easy reference. Among the features of this handy volume are helpful chapter summaries, further reading suggestions, and diagrams, which combine to make this an accessible and informative resource for learning the essentials of the Christian faith. Bible prophecy continues to fascinate, never more than in troubled times of war and natural disasters. But why study Bible prophecy? What does it mean if a person is premillennial or amillennial, believes in the Rapture, or knows who or what the Beast of Revelation is? Benware's framework for understanding Bible prophecy is based on the four biblical covenants: Abrahamic, Palestinian, Davidic, and New. This book is a reference for seminary and college students, and those curious about the various views of end times prophetic events and biblical proof behind them.

Examining the misperceptions and abuses that discourage women from pursuing a deeper understanding of God, this insightful book demonstrates how practical and down to earth knowing God can be. As Iron Sharpens Iron: Building Character in a Mentoring Relationship

Description
Howard and Bill Hendricks show that the most dramatic spiritual and personal growth often happens through the influence of a mentor, and As Iron Sharpens Iron offers a practical guide to mentoring relationships for men. You'll learn how to identify the kind of mentor you need, maximize your mentoring relationship, model your relationship after biblical examples, grow through the shared wisdom of another believer, and influence others as you replicate the mentoring process. Whether you're looking for a mentor or wish to mentor someone else, As Iron Sharpens Iron provides specific, biblical steps to begin the relationship and make the most of it. In this revised edition of the best selling book The Measure of a Man, Getz delivers the message of what it takes to be a man of God. Men will gain encouragement for what they can be in Christ as fathers, husbands, and mentors to other men. Since 1974, The Measure of a Man has taught hundreds of thousands of men around the world how to live faithfully, lovingly and spiritually according to God's direction. Drawn from Paul's letters to Timothy and Titus, true masculinity isn't measured by a man's strength but by these 20 biblical guidelines. With life applications and words of inspiration, this updated edition speaks in practical terms to men from every generation. Eight lessons for group meetings, and daily studies make up the contents of this workbook. Questions from the video segment, and questions for your group to discuss cover topics meaningful to the lives of Christian men at home, at church, and in the workplace. Man has been speaking to the hearts of men since 1991, and its words are still relevant. Using engaging illustrations, scriptural wisdom, and practical suggestions for daily life, Hughes offers frank biblical discussion on major areas of Christian manhood, including family, godliness, leadership, and ministry. Revised. Includes study guide. Today's media bombards men with sexual images and temptation, so it's no wonder that "sexual addiction" is on the rise--even within the church. In this compassionate brother-to-brother guide, Arterburn and Stoeker tackle this serious problem head-on, offering a practical battle plan for men---married or single---who desire to live by God's standard. Includes workbook. 368 pages, softcover from Waterbrook.

Love and Respect

Description
Dr. Emerson Eggerichs' book, Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires, the Respect He Desperately Needs, is based on the biblical passage from Ephesians 5:33 (But every husband must love his wife as he loves himself, and wives should respect their husbands - GODS WORD translation). His premise is that communication between a husband and wife is often frustrated because of the vastly different ways in which men and women perceive love. Women are wired to need unconditional love and men need to feel unconditionally respected. Revitalize the love in your marriage! A Focus on the Family Recommendation; hardcover. Separate Student guide recommended. The authors of Shepherding a Child's Heart and Age of Opportunity Paul and Tedd Tripp present a DVD seminar on Christian parenting. Featuring forteen 30-minute sessions, it discusses the root of behavior, toddlers and authority, setting godly goals for teens and more. Brimming with biblical insight and experience based counsel. Also includes a 50 page guide on CD-ROM. The fifteen 30-minute video sessions (with accompanying study guide and available leaders guide and parents guide) walk the viewer through the fundamental biblical passages that define what good parenting is. Tedd Tripp describes both the concepts and the methods in lively detail.

Bible Study -Men of Character Series by Gene Getz

Title Description
Joshua comes to us as a man who was a dynamic leader- in his family as well as in the nation Israel. Though he literally trembled when he was called to succeed his great mentor, Moses, he grabbed hold of God's promises and led Israel into the Promised Land. His open heart, spirit of humility, and willingness to be taught allowed him to learn God's lesson for him well. He also knew that God understands our weaknesses, and that He promises us security and inner peace if we will only reach out and accept it. Though Joshua faced real flesh and blood battles, he shows how men today can put on the "whole armor of God" to defeat the powers of darkness just as surely in the conference room or on the factory floor. The MEN OF CHARACTER series highlights the lives of men in the Bible and demonstrates that we can still learn from their relationships- both with God and man. Each of these Bible characters faced trials, frustration and failure, yet they were inspired by God to achieve great goals. In a world where Christian role models seem increasingly rare, this series reminds us that some of the most worthy examples of godly character are still the biblical figures who brought power, wisdom and inspiration to God's people throughout the ages. Principles flow from their lives that will guide us through the maze of challenges we face in today's world and can help us to emerge victoriously. Out of a sinful, pagan world, God called Abraham to leave everything he knew and travel to a land that he had never seen. Abraham stepped out in faith, yet he hesitated and delayed. Throughout his long life, it was only when Abraham fully yielded himself to the will of God, that God could fulfill His will through Abraham. Only his unconditional faith in God finally produced the son of prophecy, Isaac, and brought Abraham's family safely through the long journey to Canaan. In the ultimate test of his faith, Abraham was commanded to sacrifice Isaac as an offering to God. His willingness to do so without question proved him worthy of the blessings and riches God had promised. King David was a deeply flawed man, yet he became one of the greatest leaders in history. His story reminds us that we are all imperfect and subject to tragic failure, but that God can still use us when we humbly and sincerely seek forgiveness.

Celebrate one of the Bible's best examples of turning lemons into lemonade. Robbed and sold into slavery by his brothers, Joseph could have lived a life filled with bitterness and hate. Instead, he stood on his faith in God to save him, and eventually returned home in triumph to pardon those who had wronged him. Disappointment can destroy the joy of living, or by contrast, make it all the more beautiful and precious. With faith, perserverance will always outlast persecution.

Daniel: Standing Firm for God The Apostles: Becoming Unified Through Diversity Elijah: Remaining Steadfast Through Uncertainty Paul: Living for the Call of Christ

The familiar story of Daniel and the lion's den- the fantastic tale of God's fidelity to his dedicated servant- is only the starting point for this volume in the Men of Character Series. Getz digs deep into the story of Daniel and then draws modern parallels with the remarkable true story of a young man torn away from his family, thrust into an alien land, then revered as one of its great leaders. Daniel's political & spiritual odyssey still applies in modern society. Dr. Gene Getz examines the life and role of each apostlewhat they shared, how they differed, where they stumbled, and how Christ transformed them into powerful servants of the Lord. You will surely see yourself in their stories and reaffirm Jesus' power to use your personal strenghts and weakness to His glory. They followed, denied, loved and betrayed our Lord twenty centuries ago, yet the faults and faith of Christ's chosen apostles apply to us today.
