Good news
11 June 2004 =========================================================== ====== A fortnightly news service brought to you by Austasia Aquaculture =========================================================== ====== ABALONE ======= ABALONE FARMS AUSTRALIA TO HELP BICHENO Abalone Farms Australia, which has emerged from an operation begun in 1987 as Marine Shellfish Hatcheries, is not far away from delivering as much as $3 million annually into Bicheno's economy via its farm on Harvey's Road. It's expected the number of the venture's culture tanks will rise from 430 to 780 during the next three years, with abalone production reaching 70 tonnes a year. The operation's first major harvest will occur towards the end of 2004. Managing director Miles Cropp advises the farm currently has nine employees. The long-term aim is to operate 2000 tanks and produce 200 tonnes annually. The company began expansions some three years ago following negotiations with equity partner First Tasmania Investments.
