Project Title:

Automatic Storage and Retrieval System with GUI using Image Processing.
Idea:
The main idea behind choosing this project is to automate the Storage and Retrieval system, in which a GUI will be used to interact with the overall operation of the system. The image processing will be used to distinguish between the different parts to be stored. The wireless system will be used to connect the mechanical system with the computer.

Features:
Mechanical Implementation of AS/RS. GUI (Graphic User Interface) Design. Image Processing. Wireless Communication.

Working Procedure:
The working process of the system is as follows;

a. For storing the object;

Start the system. Homing cycle. Taking image of object. Image processing to extract data. Placing the object in a tray. 2

Placing object to its desired place. Get back to home position.

b. For retrieving the object;

Start the system. Selecting the object to be retrieved through designed GUI. Placing the object buffer. Get back to home position.

The explanation of features is as under;

a. What is AS/RS?
An Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS or AS/RS) consists of a variety of computer-controlled methods for automatically placing and retrieving loads from specific storage locations. Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS) are typically used in applications where: there is a very high volume of loads being moved into and out of storage.

b. What is GUI (Graphic User Interface)?

A Graphical User Interface (GUI) is a human-computer interface (i.e., a way for humans to interact with computers) that uses windows, icons and menus and which can be manipulated by a mouse and often to a limited extent by a keyboard as well.

c. What is Image Processing?

Image Processing is any form of signal processing for which the input is an image, such as photographs or frames of video; the output of image processing can be either an image or a set of characteristics or parameters related to the image. It primarily consists of Image Segmentation for the extraction of desired objects from an image.

d. What is Wireless Communication?

Wireless communication is the transfer of information over a distance without the use of enhanced electrical conductors or "wires".

Implementation Steps:
Implementation steps are as under;

a. Mechanical Design:
The mechanical design for storing the object is as shown in the figure. The different type of objects will be stored at the defined placed allotted for that object.

b. Transportation Mechanism:
The transportation mechanism is shown in the figure. It uses motors for moving the rack vertically and horizontally.

c. Computer Interfacing:
The computer interfacing will Communication using Wi-Fi technology. be done by Wireless

The safety system will be used for avoidance of any accident.

Applications:
The applications of our project are as under; Manufacturing Modern applications of AS/RS in a production environment provide sequencing, work-in-process (WIP) storage and just-in-time (JIT) part delivery with perfect inventory accuracy. Archival & Security The need for very dense inaccessible storage with quick retrieval time has many university libraries turning to AS/RS technology. This technology stores vaults and valued material in a highly secure, environmentally controlled automated warehouse.
