THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF ZANZIBAR (SUZA) JOB OPPORTUNITIES The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) is the only public

university in Zanzibar established by Act No. 8 of the House of Representatives of 1999. Since its inception in 2002 it has been expanding in academic programmes as well as student enrolment. Its vision is to be the most preferred University in the Eastern Africa. SUZA invites applications from suitably qualified and competent Tanzanians to be considered to fill the following vacant posts: 1. Assistant Lecturers/Lecturers for Education and History/Archaeology (One post each) 2. Advanced level School teachers with the following combinations: Mathematics/Physics, Geography/English, Biology/Chemistry (One post each) 3. Coordinator Centre for Graduate Studies and Research 4. Quality Assurance Officer (One post) 5. Laboratory Technicians for Biology, Physics and Chemistry (One post each) 6. Assistant Internal Auditor II (One post) 7. Office Management Secretary (One post) Re-advertised 8. Carpenter (One post) 9. Senior Estate Officer (One post) 1. Assistant Lecturers/Lecturers for Education and History/Archaeology (One post each) Qualifications i. Holders of Masters degree/PhD in relevant areas of study with a GPA of not less than 3.5 or equivalent at undergraduate level. Prior experience in University level teaching is an added advantage. Applicants for Education should have specialization in Principles of Guidance and counselling. Ability in teaching more than one subject is an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities To undertake academic teaching, research and consultancy services to the public and private communities. Other university duties and responsibilities as may be assigned to him/her by senior officials.

2. Advanced level School teachers with the following combinations: Mathematics/Physics, Geography/English, Biology/Chemistry (One post each) Qualifications i. Holders of Bachelor of Science with Education (B.Sc. Ed.) with a GPA of not less than 3.0 in relevant fields. ii. Must be able to communicate in English fluently. iii. Basic skills in Microsoft Office Application. iv. Prior experience in teaching at advanced level will be an added advantage. Duties and Responsibilities The main duties will be teaching, measuring progress and keeping progress records in a secure and proper way. Other duties as may be assigned by the Coordinator of the Department of Secondary Education. Geography/English teacher must be able and ready to teach General Studies (GS).

3. Coordinator Centre for Graduate Studies and Research (One post) Qualifications Holder of Masters degree in any discipline with a GPA of not less than 3.5 or equivalent at undergraduate level. Should possess enough skills in research undertakings.

Duties and Responsibilities i. Assist Head of the Section in all matters regarding to the respective Section. ii. Day to day coordination of the Section and correspondence with Head of the Section. iii. Editing and assisting with preparation of research documents and Proof reading and amending documents for readability. iv. Proposing new programmes and capacity building of the Section. v. To perform any other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor.

4. Quality Assurance Officer (One post) Holder of Masters degree in Arts/Sciences with Education or its equivalent qualification.

Duties and Responsibilities To authenticate O Level and A Level Certificates of SUZA admitted students from relevant bodies such as the Tanzania Commission for Universities, National Examinations Council of Tanzania and other national and international academic institutions.

To arrange for a review/evaluation and monitor existence of Curricula for the courses. Scouting of invigilation processes of the same. Monitor teaching and learning outcomes of the programmess in liaison with teachers and student leaders. To ensure that the proposed new and revised programmes follow guidelines set up by the senate. Establish a students feedback and evaluation process. Advice the management on quality measures to be adopted by the university. Prepare periodic report of his/her activities. Any other tasks assigned by the Head.

5. Laboratory Technicians for Biology, Physics and Chemistry (One post each except for Chemistry with Two posts) Qualifications Holders of not less than undergraduate degree in their relevant areas of study. Duties and Responsibilities Perform specified laboratory activities which require high skills under minimum supervision. Participate in preparation of practical classes and perform consultancy activities in collaboration with qualified laboratory scientists. Perform maintenance and service work on simple laboratory equipment. Perform any other duties as may be directed by Heads of their departments.

6. Assistant Internal Auditor II (One post) Qualifications i. Possession of a University degree in Accountancy or Advanced Diploma in Accountancy or Professional Level II or Module C and D.

Duties and Responsibilities Execute audit programmes regarding: Payment and retirement of interests. Ordering and payment for local goods and services. Checks that Heads of Departments maintain inventory of furniture, equipment and other moveable assets in accordance with the University policy. Performs any other duties as may be assigned by ones reporting officer. 7. Office Management Secretary (One post) Re-advertised Qualifications i. Applicant must be holder of Diploma in Secretarial Duties or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

ii. Applicant must be fluent in Kiswahili and English languages; knowledge of other languages is an added advantage. iii. Applicant must have a working experience of at least five years with high level of discipline. iv. Applicant must be computer literate. v. Capability of handling heavy load. vi. The job demands desire and ability to work overtime, so the applicant should possess this quality. vii. Duties and Responsibilities To type all general correspondence including confidential matters. To receive visitors and direct them to respective officers. To file minutes, correspondences and other documents. To maintain diary of appointment for the officer he/she works with. To ensure availability of adequate office supplies and office services. To carry out minor administrative duties. To perform any other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor. 8. Carpenter (One post) Qualifications i. The required carpenter should be a holder of at least a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination preferably in Technical schools or Vocational Training Centres majoring in carpentry works. He/she has to have working experience of at least four years in similar duties.

Duties and Responsibilities Undertakes emergency and planned repairs of carpentry works of the University. To perform any other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor.

10. Senior Estate Officer Qualifications i. Must be a holder of Master degree or Post Graduate Diploma in Construction Management or Engineering Management with Bachelor degree such as Civil Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveyor or Land Management and Valuation or any other relevant course, with a registration from recognised professional bodies.

Duties and Responsibilities The overall in charge of the Department in day to day activities or tasks. To manage design for renovations and new construction of buildings. Managing transportation arrangement to senior staff and other staff of the University, including all matters of logistics of the University.

Managing operation and maintenance of University facilities and services such as maintenance of buildings services (water and electrical), vehicles, fire detection and fire fighting equipments, and security systems. Secure and safeguard the University properties from any forms of theft and loss, and keep track of all movement of facilities in and out of the University premises. Responsible for the environmental management and cleaning of the University premises. Acquisition of new land and protection of the owned land of the University. Managing lease of facilities and space of the University. Prepares budget for the department as part and parcel of the budget of the DVC Administration. Design and implement policies concerning University properties and facilities management. Reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Finance and Administration) and Building and Estate Committee or any other committee when required. Performs any other duties on the direction of the University authority.
