Evangelism Scripture Text: Acts 3-4 Objective: At the end of the message, congregation should: 1. Understand the power of the name of Jesus. a. Acts 3:16, 4:10, 4:12, 4:30 2. Be motivated to evangelize and minister in the name of Jesus with confirmation of signs and wonders. 3. Be empowered by the Holy Spirit for sharing and witnessing Jesus. Introduction: Acts 4:20 For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard. (NIV) We cannot stop telling about the wonderful things we saw Jesus do and hear him say. (TLB)

Evangelism. Sharing and Witnessing Jesus. Before we can do that, we need to have a personal encounter with Him. We cannot be a witness to something we havent seen or have been a part of. Thats just impossible. Now, if we say we have encountered Jesus, the most logical thing to do is to tell others about Him (Ptr. Zaldys message last week: Get Connected Mark 5:19 Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.). If we have been a part of something incredible, something so wonderful, theres nothing that would keep us from telling someone about that experience. If you havent met Him yet, it is my prayer that before this message ends, you will encounter Jesus Christ, the Risen Lord who is now seated at the right hand of the Father (Mk.16:19), and realize His great love for you. Open your heart out to Him, hear His Word for you today. Listen closely. It is no accident that you are here right now. He has brought you here today to hear this message because He loves you and wants to tell you that. Or if you have already met Him, I pray that you will have a renewed, burning desire to tell others about Him, what He has done for you, and what He is able to do through you. Let the Spirit who is in you stir your heart into action. I pray that you will be filled, refilled, and empowered as you go out and boldly preach Jesus to your loved ones. And as you witness for Him, may He confirm His word through you with the accompanying signs that He has promised in His Word for those who believe in His Name (Mk.16:17-18, 20).

PART 1: OUR MESSAGE: JESUS! (WORD - Preach the Word. 2 Tim.3:5) IF WE WANT TO GET THE ORIGINAL RESULTS, WE HAVE TO PREACH THE ORIGINAL MESSAGE. Reinhard Boennke Releasing the Fire Within

Many people are lost without the knowledge of the Truth. Many people are living in darkness and are searching for the Light. Our message for them is this: Jesus is the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE. Jesus is the LIGHT OF THE WORLD. He came to save that which was lost. He came to set the captives free. He came to save us, to break the chains of sin and death, to redeem us. He paid the price for our freedom us with His own life. Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

The very meaning of Jesus name is The Lord saves (Hebrew: Yeshua). His name has the power to save us from sin and all its evil effects: death, sickness, etc. The Power of Jesus Name Acts 3:6-8 In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk. Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the mans feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Acts 3:16 By faith in the name of Jesus It is Jesus name and the faith that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him Acts 4:7,10 By what power or what name did you do this?... IT IS BY THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. o o Believers are authorized to use the name of Jesus to bring healing to the sick, and Jesus has the power to heal them. Mark 16:17-18 In my name they willplace their hands on sick people, and they will get well. Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is NO OTHER NAME under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. o More than physical healing, every one of us needs to be healed (or revived, resuscitated, brought back to life) spiritually. Jesus, who is the Great Physician, heals not only our physical bodies but also brings NEW LIFE (a VICTORIOUS, TRIUMPHANT LIFE) TO OUR SPIRIT AS HIS SPIRIT INDWELLS US AS SOON AS WE PUT OUR FAITH IN HIM. He can do that because HE IS THE RISEN LORD! He is the only One

who has defeated sin and death because He is the perfect, sinless LAMB OF GOD that was sacrificed on the cross who rose again; the Author of life was crucified by man, but GOD RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD (Acts 3:15). Therefore, Jesus is THE ONLY SAVIOR. Theres no other way for us to be saved from sin and death and eternal separation from God apart from JESUS. John 1:12 Yet to all who received him, to those WHO BELIEVED HIS NAME, he gave the right to become children of God. Hes not asking you to be good first, or to have a great track record before you can be saved. He only asks that you BELIEVE IN HIS NAME (His name, Jesus or Yeshua (Hebrew), means the Lord saves) and RECEIVE HIM as your Savior and Redeemer and make Him the Lord and Master of your life. PART 2: GODS CONFIRMATION OF OUR MESSAGE: MIRACLES, SIGNS AND WONDERS (WONDERS Mk.16:17) The Role of Signs & Wonders Acts 3:9-11 o filled with wonder and amazement astonished came running to them You wont have a hard time getting people to come and hear you because the signs and wonders (S&W) draw them out and make them interested. There are so many people who are in need of a breakthrough, a deliverance, a healing SALVATION. If they know someone who can do something about their problem, theyd go to you. Desperate people would do anything for a breakthrough. Can you give them what they need? Do you have what they need? They need JESUS. Acts 4:4 o many of the people who heard their message believed it, so that the number of believers now reached about 5,000 men. S&W confirms your message of the resurrected Christ. It proves to the unbelieving heart that Jesus is alive and is able and mighty to save. These signs, done by true disciples, confirm that the gospel message is genuine, that Gods kingdom has come to earth in power, and that the living and risen Jesus is present with his people and working through them (John 10:25, Acts 10:38). (FLSB Article: Signs of the Believers Mk.16:17-18) Acts 4:21-22 o everyone was praising God for this wonderful miracle the healing of a man who had been lame for forty years.

God is glorified and given the praise that He deserves for this wonderful thing that He has done.

SIGNS AND WONDERS Are they still applicable to us today? YES! 1. As long as we are here on earth, there are people who are still under the power of sin and death. They need deliverance (salvation), healing and breakthrough. 2. Jesus ministry here on earth was that of WORDS and WORKS (Luke 24:19 Jesus of Nazaretha prophet, powerful in WORD AND DEED). If He is to be our goal, our perfect example to follow, then it follows that we should also minister not only in words but also in works. (FLSB Note on Heb.2:4 God desires that the believers witness be more than simply words.) Christs followers were not only to preach the gospel of the kingdom and bring salvation to those who believe (Mk.16:15-16), but were also to bring in that kingdom, just as Jesus did (Acts 10:38 God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, andhe went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.), by driving out demons and healing the sick. (FLSB Article: Signs of the Believers Mk. 16:17-18) These spiritual manifestations are intended to continue within Christs church until Jesus returns. Scripture never suggests that these signs were restricted to the period immediately following Jesus ascension (1 Cor.1:7, 12:28, Gal.3:5). The failure of theses signs to occur in the church today is not Christs failure to keep his promises. Failure, Jesus states, lies within the hearts of his followers. (Matt.17:17) 3. Jesus Himself assures us of the power of His name as we place our faith in it: John 14:11-14 Believe me believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves anyone who has FAITH IN ME will do what I have been doingeven greater things than these I WILL DO WHATEVER YOU ASK IN MY NAME SO THAT THE SON MAY BRING GLORY TO THE FATHER YOU MAY ASK ME FOR ANYTHING IN MY NAME AND I WILL DO IT. Also in Isaiah, God Himself that He is the Lord who carries out the words of his servants (Isaiah 44:24-26 )

So PRAY and ask God to confirm His message as you place your faith in His Name. Acts 4:30 - The believers prayer: o send your healing power, and may miracles and wonders be done by the name of your holy servant Jesus. (TLB) o Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus. (NIV)

It is GOD who will perform the healing and miracles and wonders through the name of Jesus. It is by HIS power, through the name of JESUS CHRIST. We are only asked to have faith and obey. Hebrews 2:4 God also testified to it (gospel message) by signs, wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will.

PART 3: OUR POWER: THE HOLY SPIRIT (WIND Acts 2:2) The Necessity of Holy Spirit Empowerment After Jesus assured His disciples that He will do whatever they (we) ask in His name, He tells them about the promised Holy Spirit 1whom they have to watch out for. We, by our own human strength and ability, cannot help the lost and dying.

Spirit/wind/breath = ruach (Hebrew)

Excerpt from Perry Stone: The Hebrew Roots of the Holy Spirit [According to Jewish Oral Tradition: When God came down in the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement in Moses tabernacle, 2 odd things happened: the tent would expand like lungs breathing, and you would hear the sound of breathing. This breathing was called the breath of the holies to the spirit of the holies to holy spirit. The Holy Spirit is Gods breath on earth, breathing life to His people. -A spirit needs a body for authority. A spirit needs a body to have a voice. Paul in Corinthians said that the church is His body. How it operates: Eph.5:23 When Jesus ascended to heaven and took His body with Him, the devil thought it was over and the disciples would be easy targets because they all ran during the crucifixion. But then, THE HOLY SPIRIT CAME ON PENTECOST AND BAPTIZED AND FILLED THE DISICPLES! Acts 2 The Holy Spirit was about to inhabit the earth and invade this planet! Jesus left but He never really left. He still has a body here on earth the church! If ones spirit leaves its body, it has no voice. If the Holy Spirit is not permitted in that body dead churches When you take the Holy Spirit out, you take the spirit out of that church. WE NEED THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. Its more than speaking in tongues. When a spirit takes on a body, it gives 2 things: VOICE and AUTHORITY. When you get filled with the HS and you have a prayer language from God, you are an individual body inside of the body

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 2 Corinthians 10:3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. o We cannot do without the power of the Spirit. Without the Spirit, there is no life. There is no victory. There is no power. o We can only fight spiritual warfare by the Spirit of God who is in us (Zechariah 4:6 Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty.) 2 Corinthians 10: 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world), but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. (continue in v.5) Ephesians 6:13, 18 Therefore put on the full armor of God and pray in the Spirit on all occasions

That is why Jesus told His disciples to wait for the gift (Acts 1:4) before they go out in ministry, because it is through that gift, the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:5, 8), that they will receive power (Acts 1:8) for witnessing. Acts 4:8-13 Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. Acts 4:31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. o Power to witness boldly Spirit of POWER instead of spirit of timidity (2 Tim.1:7) Ps. 46:1 God is our refuge and strength (Heb: oz, meaning might, strength; boldness, power) Ps.46:4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad (Heb: samach, meaning to cause to rejoice, brighten up) the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles (Heb: mishkan, meaning dwelling place, temple, residence, habitation) of the most High Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19) Out of your bellies will flow rivers of living water (John 7:38) Ps.46: 5-6 God is within her he lifts his voice (Heb: qol, meaning voice, sound; from an unused root meaning to call aloud; proclaim, SING, sound, yell) the earth melts

If we allow the HS to function...then we discover that there's an AUTHORITY RELEASED in preaching, in singing, in laying hands upon people.. VOICE AND A POWER to set people free from bondage of sin!]

When the HS takes on our body (indwells us) and we are baptized, filled with the Holy Spirit, we are given VOICE AND AUTHORITY (POWER). If we allow the HS to function, then we discover theres an AUTHORITY RELEASED in our proclamation of the gospel, in our singing, in laying hands upon and praying for healing we are given a VOICE AND POWER to set people free from the bondage of sin.2 2 Chronicles 20 Valley of Beracah (Valley of Praise) Jehoshaphat and his men saw victory in war; all they did was SING PRAISES TO GOD (vv. 15,17,21,22) o v. 12 For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you. Then the Lord tells them to take their positions, stand firm, and see the deliverance the Lord will bring; they took up their positions SINGING AND PRAISING GOD Sometimes, all we need to do to win a spiritual battle is to be still and simply worship God. As we worship, singing songs of praise to Him, especially if we sing songs of deliverance, songs that the Spirit will give us, God will move and inhabit the praise of His people. He will work mighty, wonderful, powerful things that only He can do. Another example: Paul and Silas (Acts 16) Ps. 46:7,11; 46:10 The Lord of hosts (Heb. tsaba, meaning army, war, warfare) is WITH US BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD: I WILL BE EXALTED AMONG THE HEATHEN, I WILL BE EXALTED IN THE EARTH Immanuel God with us is going to work through us in the war against Satans kingdom by the power of the Holy Spirit who is in us. It is not by our might, nor by our power, but by THE SPIRIT OF GOD that we are marching towards the battle against the enemy. We need to BE STILL before the Lord; and as we stop and take time to be with Him, listen to Him, we will ENCOUNTER HIM and KNOW that HE IS GOD. As HE does HIS WORK through us, He will be exalted. He will confirm His Word and His Power as we obey and yield ourselves to the Spirit.

Perry Stone: The Hebrew Roots of the Holy Spirit

o Isaiah 59:19 Men will fear the name of the Lord; they will revere his glory When the enemy comes in like a flood, the SPIRIT OF THE LORD will put him to flight 2 Timothy 3:5 having a form of godliness but denying its power o the context of this verse is talking about godlessness in the last days. o The Greek word used for power is the same Greek word used for power in Acts 1:8 (dunamis). DYNAMITE! o Denying the power of the Spirit, quenching the Spirit and His fire (1 Thess.5:19) is a form of godlessness. It is a sin!

-Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord o For revival (times of refreshing) to happen, we need to humble ourselves before the Lord (Repent) and pray (turn to God) Jesus, the Redeemer, has come to save and redeem those who repent of their sins, DECLARES THE LORD (Isa.59:20) o The sacrifices that God will not despise are a broken spirit and a contrite heart (Ps. 51:17) and the Lord Himself promised to revive the spirit of the lowly and the heart of the contrite (Isaiah 57:16) Let us check ourselves and see if our hearts are right with God. The Lord tells us that there is no peace for the wicked (Isa.57:21). If we are yearning for peace and healing in our lives, God tells us the right sacrifices we are to bring unto Him humility, brokenness and contriteness of spirit. Peace, healing, guidance, comfort (Isaiah 57:18-19) are promised for those who will offer him themselves to Him. Our God, who is a consuming fire (Heb.12:29), accepts this kind of sacrifice. We need the fire of God in our lives. We need Jesus, the Baptizer, to baptize us with the Holy Spirit and with fire (Luke 3:16). We need to fan into flame the gift that God has given us (2 Tim.1:6) for it is His fire that will burn up the works of the enemies (Ps.97:3) Dunamis = DYNAMITE! IT WORKS! GET UP AND DO SOMETHING! JESUS CAN GET YOU OUT OF THE DEATH PIT, BUT HE CANT GET YOU OUT OF THE EASY CHAIR. YOU HAVE TO GET UP AND DO SOMETHING. - Reinhard Boennke Releasing the Fire Within

Rev. 3:14-20 o God doesnt want any lukewarm Christian in His kingdom. He will spit you out if you are not hot enough! o Jesus is knocking on the door of our hearts. Hear His voice, open the door and let Him in. Be earnest, repent.
