On Nov. 5, the Avon Local School Dis-
trict will ask Avon voters to continue to
support a permanent improvement levy.
Issue 28 on the ballot is the renewal of a
1.25-mill permanent improvement levy. It
will not increase taxes, according to district
officials. It will continue to cost $38.29 per
$100,000 home value each year for the next
five years, if approved by voters.
If voters pass Issue 28, the levy will raise
approximately $792,766 each year for the
next five years, according to a fact sheet on
the levy.
According to state law, permanent im-
provement levy funds cant be used to
pay for a school districts operating
funds, such as employee salaries and
benefits.
The money raised by the levy can
only be used for purchasing property, re-
pairing and improving the districts fa-
cilities, transportation or technology.
At an Avon Board of Education meet-
ing several months ago, Avon Local
School District Treasurer Kent Zeman
said the permanent improvement levy
was first approved by voters in 1993. The
last time Avon residents renewed the
levy was in 2008, and that renewal ex-
pires at the end of this year, he said.

Beginning Nov. 1, Avon residents may notice
that their Republic Services garbage and recy-
cling removal fees have slightly decreased.
Theyve taken our gas surcharge off of our
bill, Avon Mayor Jim Smith said in an interview.
Smith said the removal of the surcharge was-
nt part of any negotiations.
Asked if the reduction was to compensate for
other fee increases, he said that wasnt the case.
They are just doing it, he said.
The fee removal will save each resident ap-
proximately $3.40 per month, according to Smith.
In other garbage-related news, according to
the city of Avon website, garbage pickup days
have changed for some Avon residents. Those
who live in Avon east of Jaycox Road whose
curbside trash and recycling removal days were
on Mondays, the pickup day has changed to
Tuesdays. Those who have questions/concerns
can contact Republic Services at 440-458-5191
or Avon Clerk of Council and Recycling Coordi-
nator Ellen Young at 440-937-7821.
