Information Technology Information technology (IT) is the application of computers and telecommunications equipment to store, retrieve, transmit, and

manipulate data, often in the context of a business or other enterprise. The term is commonly used as a synonym for computers and computer networks, but it also encompasses other information distribution scientific knowledge such as television and telephones. Several industries are associated with information technology, such as computer hardware, software, electronics, semiconductors, internet, e-commerce, telecom equipment, and computer services. IT also refers to any computer based tool that people use to work with information and support the information and information processing needs of an organization. It includes the IT infrastructure and all other information structure in an organization. The reason for this widespread IT use is that IT has become the major facilitator of business activities in the world today. IT also performs high-speed, high volume, and numerical computations. It provides fast, accurate, and inexpensive communication within and between organizations. It stores huge amounts of information in an easy-to-access yet small space. It enables communication and collaboration anywhere and anytime. IT increases the effectiveness and efficiency of people working in groups in one place or in several locations anywhere. In a business context, Ive read that the Information Technology Association of America has defined information technology as "the study, design, development, application, implementation, support or management of computer-based information structure". The responsibilities of those working in the field include network administration, software development and installation, and the planning and management of an organization's technology life cycle, by which hardware and software is maintained, upgraded and replaced. Humans have been storing, retrieving, manipulating and communicating information since the Sumerians in Mesopotamia developed writing in about 3000 BC, but the term information technology in its modern sense first appeared in a 1958 article published in the Harvard Business Review; authors Harold J. Leavitt and Thomas L. Whisler commented that "the new technology does not yet have a single established name. We shall call it information technology (IT)." Based on the storage and processing scientific knowledge employed, it is possible to distinguish four distinct phases of IT development: pre-mechanical (3000 BC 1450 AD), mechanical (14501840),

electromechanical (18401940) and electronic (1940present). This article focuses on the most recent period (electronic), which began in about 1940. Information Technology clearly involves the processing of information by a computer. Usually this means the use of hardware, software, services, and the supporting infrastructure to manage and deliver information. IT is a term that encompasses all forms of technology used to create, store, exchange, and use information in its various forms (business data, voice conversations, still images, motion pictures, multimedia presentations, and other forms, including those not yet conceived). It's a convenient term for including both telephony and computer technology in the same word. It is the scientific knowledge that is driving what has often been called "the information revolution". One of the most widely used scientific knowledge is the Internet. The Internet is a computer network made up of thousands of networks worldwide. No one knows exactly how many computers are connected to the Internet. It is certain, however, that these number in the millions. No one is in charge of the Internet. There are organisations which develop technical aspects of this network and set standards for creating applications on it, but no governing body is in control. The Internet backbone, through which Internet traffic flows, is owned by private companies. In todays up-and-down job market and shaky economy, there are few career fields that are as consistent as the field of Information Technology. As a branch of engineering, Information Technology specializes specifically in using computer technology and telecommunications technology to transmit, translate and store various types of information- although there are a ton of other types of jobs that do fall under the Information Technology umbrella. Essentially information technology is all about using information as a commodity or resource, just like any other job. The information that is being translated, disseminated, stored, transmitted, etc. is usually in the forms of audio, video, textual and numerical information and is processed through the use of microelectronics and computers. The field of Information Technology is usually used to describe a whole series of jobs, but in reality, there are tons of jobs that are called Information Technology jobs, but are actual part of a subcategory like Management Information Services and Information Services. IT has really changed our daily personal lives radically over recent years - the use of mobile phones to make calls and send text messages, the use of websites to book cheap flights and the use of ATM machines for banking are all an integral part our society today. Clearly the business environment has been hugely impacted by these.

IT has also a role in the society. Each scientific knowledge has its users and developers. They determine the importance and influence of technology on the consumer. Whether people are really wrapped up in the digital society depends on their capacity to deal with digital data and the influence of the information technology on the digital society. Digitalisation of data has helped to solve a lot of problems and helped to realise some great projects. For example, the whole space technology would not have been possible without computers. But a problem is seldom solved without new problems and risks creating, which are even mightier. All problems can or will never be solved. Information Technology is a very important thing because it helps us in our everyday living. The importance of data causes that the information technology is involved in every work. That's why all people get in contact with it. The changing nature of work will influence business, where work is executed, and education, which prepares for work. The importance of the information technology for work demands that people are prepared for it early in life. Therefore the study of the information technology should be a subject of our education. Moreover when people get into contact with it early they get used to its properties. For people that have grown up within in a digital environment the information technology is no longer a subject of discussion, but a simple fact of life. Information technology also helps to improve the logistics of a company because it accelerates and lightens the procedures doing a minimum with physical resources.
