BCC Intensive English Program Grade Seven Course Syllabus for Semester 2 / 2013-2014

Course Objectives: This course is an outcomes-based, English language enrichment course designed to develop and consolidate students skills in the areas of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Specific course objectives include: To encourage students to be active and constructive in their own learning, using English as a tool to create meaning, seek knowledge, and to interact effectively with others in the school context and in the broader community. To extend students competence and confidence in using English in a range of demanding and challenging contexts. To integrate learning English with other areas of the College curriculum. To encourage students to become responsible, independent, reflective learners. To promote an atmosphere of collaboration and co-operation amongst students. Coursebook English in Mind Book 1 (Herbert Puchta and Jeff Stranks, 2010) Teaching Learning Materials and Resources Student coursebook; workbook; support and assistance of Thai Language Teachers; flashcards; audio cassettes; supplementary video cassettes; materials to complete projects and activities (construction paper, coloured markers, paint etc); overhead projector; television; video; cassette/CD player. Week Topic Unit 8: We're going on holiday Student Book pages 68-75 Do you like to travel? Students will read texts and listen to audio about vacations. They will talk about making arrangements, and discuss holiday plans. Students will study present continuous for future arrangements. Unit 9: It'll never happen Student Book pages 78-85 What will happen in the future? Students will read texts and listen to audio about future predictions. They will make future predictions, and talk about their lives in the future. Students will study will and wont for making future predictions. Week 5: Nov. 25.29 Week 6: Dec. 2 - 6 Review Week for IEP Midterms. IEP Mid-Terms

Unit 10: Dont give up Student Book pages 86-93 What is the weather like today? Week 7: Dec. 9 13 Week 8: Dec. 16 - 20 Students will listen to audio about survival and weather. They will learn to describe actions and weather. Students will study too + adjective and adverbs. Week 8 will also include time for Christmas projects. Christmas Break is December 22 January 1. Christmas Break Students return Jan. 2. Reading/Project/Activity Week. Healthy Eating. Unit 13: Travelers tales Student Book pages 114-121 What country is the best place to visit? Students will read text and listen to audio about customs around the world. Students will give tourist advice, and learn to describe people. Students will study should/shouldn't, and What is it like? Week 14: Jan. 27 - 31 Week 15: Feb. 3 - 7 Week 16: Feb. 10 - 14 Week 17: Feb. 17 - 21 Review Week for IEP Exams. IEP Exams Reading/Project/Activity Week. Global Warming. Main School Exams.
