SmiARY OF WORiv 1953

Th0 church that meets in the Shimoochial Mission Center

whore the Pleenor's work io centcpod has grov.n from 25 members

in January 19543 to 59 members by the closing day of December 1953. Since July, 1953 the chirrch supports & native pastor,
Paul Yai^ada, at the rate of ^^15.00 a month and has ponducted

five weeks of evangelistic meetings during the year as well as a Bible school averaging 55 ciiildren a v/eek paying all
running expenses. Tlie morning v/orship service is so crowded

that the church nov; desires to build a church building

on the front of the property whore the Fleenor's Mission

Homo is built and vzhore the church nov/ meets. We are asking for 14000.00 for a "CHURCH BUILDING LOAN FUlJD". From this mon'jy we hop to construct a sturdy corci ote brick building

and the Shimoochial Church will in turn sot asiu.e 10^ of their

offerings weekly to pay back into this fund that another church building might be built in the future in another area.

The work of the Shidioochiai Church will not grov/ to any extent j
in the coming year without more room to house nev/ members.

As it is nov/, non-Ciiristians hesitate to talio up room in the

small 56X12 meeting room of the mission cantor and cause the Christians to stand or be crowded. We ask the churches at

hom to pray about tlois need and send offerings marked

"Church Building Fund" to oui*' forwarding agent W.V.Floenor

STORIBS OF WORK

On Christmas day Sterihen Fleenor age 6 came running to his daddy calling "Come quick a boy has fallen from a tree and is bleeding and hurt bad." Julius Pleenor went immediately and picked up the limp child and carried him tenderly to his parents* home. Two thoughts filled his mind. First, just how badly was the child hurt. Secondly, he was
greatly concerned becavse the mother had just become a Christian Ijwo v/eeks before and the Japanese often feel that religion is a matter of good luck and he feared for the mother's faith if the child was seriously hurt. The Japanese

father anc Julius took the child to the hospital and v/as happy to learn that only three stithies were necessary for

facial cuts and no bones were broken. The Christmas day was climaxed by the mother coming in the evening to give a prayer of thanksgiving with us that the child was not seriously hurt
and to tell us that her husband' f elt much more interested

in Chrisstianity through his v/iJ&e's calmness and faith in the incident. These ptirents had lost three children in a fire

bomb raid during the war and it v/as a difficult thing for the mo
mother to give up the v/orship of the souls of her throe dead children, but now she has greater comfort to know her children
in Bible School attendance.

We have stressed the importance of soul winning to

all our new converts, but it is often a very difficult thing

for the Japanese even as i t is for Americans.

About Sj- years ago Virginia Fie nor won her interpreter
to the Lord. The woman, a v.idow aged 35, was so filled v/ith joy she immediately v/rote a letter to her parents and each

mjember of her family telling of her new found joy and sending them Bibls. On the first Sunday in December 1953 her aged mother was baptized into Christ giving up years
of following the teachings of Buddha. Her mother-in-law

v/as so angry when Mrs. Mkami, my interpreter, was baptized 2-z ^ears ago and decidcd to train up hor tv/o young sons in the Lord, she left the house for over a v/eek, but we are rejoicing that nov/ the mother-in-law is attending church
