The Wintal STB10HD was a huge hit with over 90% of all units sold into the commercial marketit ended up selling out many months earlier than expected! Some of the core ingredients to its commercial success were usability and 3 year warranty. For usability, the additional learning buttons on the STB10HD remote meant that you could simply teach it to turn on the TV, adjust the TVs AV input and volume and continue using the one remote. While the retail market loved the reduced "remote control clutter", the commercial market found it to be essential, specifying the feature in some quotes. The 3 year warranty was also considered mandatory for commercial quotes and a strong selling point for retail sales. We have retained these features and selling points in the new STB14HDthough added two extra features. With the addition of a hard drive (product code 6900 0055), the PVR function allows users to record, timeshift and playback their favourite TV shows. A TV with digital tuner in-built is ne for viewing and many models like the Wintal TVs will also allow recording, but the issue is that you only have a single TV tuner, meaning you can't watch another channel while recording The STB14HD provides a low cost solution to recording TV programs. We also acknowledge that loads of content, like TV programs, photos and music are available from the internet. This is a trend that is building momentum, so we knew that we needed to build support for the latest media formats. As well as the usual formats, you have .mkv support for the latest Full HD movies. With recording features and internet le support, we expect to see the set top box perform stronglywell beyond the analogue TV switch-off.

Most people are confused by the TV industry. There are the global brands, local OEM brands and retailers making all kinds of claims. The issue is that too many of these companies claim to be everything to everyone. The 14 Series Wintal TVs are built to be economical without sacricing functionality or reliability. Currently the rst shipment will contain 19, 24 and 32 sizes. So whats changing? The 19 and 32 sizes will drop from Full HD resolutions to HD (24 remains Full HD). The main reason being, these sizes are being used at home for spare rooms and standard commercial applications like classrooms, cafes or ofces. Most of the market focuses on the

50 plus size for the main TV. As a result, we needed to address two issuesthe initial cost and the running costs. While maintaining the same fantastic energy consumption for low running costs, the cost price of the panels have also dropped by 30%. Smart TV features will become standard for the Wintal range in the future, but not just yet. The DLNA and Apps need improvement in the low cost TV market. Whats staying? Mpeg4 support is still not standard for entry level TVs, yet standard for the Wintals. This feature was considered important for receiving all TV broadcasts and also applications that involve digital modulation.

We have also retained the oversized speaker enclosures and high SPL. We acknowledge that Wintal buyers are on a budget and dont want to spend time and money on auxiliary sound systems. The exible warranties are here to stay. The choices are 1 year (standard), 3 or 5 years. These warranties are particularly useful for commercial jobs where chopping and changing between equipment can be labour intensive and costly. We understand that most our Wintal TV buyers enjoy the convenience of dropping by or ordering online and receiving the TV generally next day, so we expect stocks to be received by mid-November. We should have enough stock to see us through Christmas.

2014 SOUND+IMAGE AWARDS

The Sound+Image Awards celebrated their 25th year before an audience of Australian and international guests. The Awards recognise excellence in the consumer audio-visual industry, with more than 90 awards presented in 43 categories, including big-screen TVs, high-end stereo hi-, headphones, wireless speakers and mobile entertainment. A special Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Stephen Lee of Audio Trends for a lifetime of enthusiastic and successful work in audio retail and through the Australian Hi-Fi Association and StarAV. A major award also went to Denon's AVR-X2000 taking out the AV Receiver of the year under $1000 category. But it was Yamaha who seemed to steal the show, walking away with a host of awards. They were elated when it was announced that the RX-A3030 came out on top for the AV Receiver of the Year over $2000 category, also surprised when their pre/power combo ( MX-A5000 & CX-A5000) was awarded with the Highly Commended Award in the

Best Multi-channel Receiver over $2000 category not to mention 2 more Awards for their YAS-101 & RX-A730. Other notable awards went to Bowers & Wilkins' A7, taking out the Wireless Speaker of the Year Award & their Panorama 2 taking out a Highly Commended Soundbar Award. All in all making for an enjoyable evening with some of the nest AV products recognised for their AV excellence. We're already looking forward to next years event!

IN-WALL SOUNDBAR SYSTEM

Last Christmas the soundbar was nally "discovered" by the Aussie marketselling in record numbers. At the same time, the commercial audio market has been busily cutting holes in our walls and ceilings discretely installing speakers. This year, one company has decided to take both ideas and put them into one product the Niles in-wall soundbar system. At CEDIA, we got to play with the very rst Cynema soundbar in Australia. Its a LCR (left, centre & right) passive speakermeaning it requires an amplier and ideally a subwoofer. It can be installed in any ordinary plaster wall. The moveable mounting points also allows for different stud separations (450mm or 600mm). The speakers are connected and clipped into the mounted frame, which is a very simple process. We auditioned the Cynema with a Sunre Atmos Sub ($1,999rrp). The performance was great, though the subwoofer was probably essential for music and movie viewing. If the Sunre breaks the budget, an Earthquake MinimeP8W ($899rrp) would be ideal.

ecently Spotify launched a new feature they will be offering to their Premium customers, called 'Spotify Connect'. They are really excited about this feature and are going to be pushing it heavily around the world over the coming weeks. Yamaha will support Spotify Connect on all 2013 '75 Series Network Receivers & '30 Series Aventage Receivers (via a forthcoming rmware update, TBC)the only model that will not support it is the RXV375. This rmware update will be available in Australia at the same time as the US and Europe and Yamaha will be the rst AV Receiver brand to offer this feature!

Yamaha have recently introduced a bunch of new productsjust in time for Christmas. Here's a brief overview. Yamaha are the pioneers of the soundbar, boasting the largest range in the industry. The basic models feature 'Air Surround' (surround sound effect), while higher end products will bounce audio signals off surrounding walls to give the best substitute to actually positioning speakers around the room. In the entry level category, they'll release the YAS152B. It will be much wider than it's little brothers, suiting a 55" plus panel. Like practically all the Yamaha minisystems of late, it will feature a bluetooth adaptor, negating the capability

issues associated with hardwiring your phone (music source) to the soundbar. The second product of note is yet another AV receiver from Yamaha, the RXS600DB. Interestingly, it is a slimline receiver with DAB+ digital radio on board. At $949rrp, it'll be a competitor for the popular NR series Marantz. The digital radio DAB+ tuners have been very sought after and with 5ch rather than the 7ch NR1603, Yamaha were able to achieve a much lower RRP. Lots of connectivity, airplay, wi, discreet amplication, YPAO audio calibration and the choice of black or Aluminum. It should be popular. The third October delivery is the RN500 stereo

receiver ($899rrp). This was the product that grabbed our attention. Everyday, our installers use Yamaha stereo receivers in shops and cafes. They are affordable, solid and reliable. The issue has been usability. Most cafes use smart phones or tablets. Ideally they want to stream their music wirelessly. The RN500 nally gives us a simple solution allowing users to send music via airplay or via the NP Controller App. For a "set and forget" solution, it also has internet radio on board. Enough? Not quite! The nal October release is the RS201 stereo receiver and AS201 stereo amplier, both available in black and silver ($399rrp).

For many years CAT 5/6 cable has been used to distribute various types of data throughout ofces, schools, hospitals and even private homes. More recently CAT 5/6 cabling has been used to reticulate many different signal sources such as audio, video and HDMI. At the heart of the Kingray CATTV system is the CAT01 high output distribution amplier capable of supplying quality signal to up to four TV receivers. The CAT01 amplier incorporates master gain and tilt controls, plus individual gain controls for each outlet, delivering a balanced output level regardless of cable lengths. Available separately is the Kingray KLE02 impedance matching balun cable for connection between the RJ45 wall outlet and the television ensuring optimal performance at all times. WiFi truly emerged with the sale of millions of smart phones and tablets. Very quickly workplaces and homes were tted out with basic WiFi routers. A few years on and every day electronics are WiFi enabled. Security systems, gaming consoles, TVs, AV receivers and Blu-rays are connected to the web. Last year, we saw appliances like fridges, washing machines and ovens joining the fray! At the same time, businesses and hotels are offering guest access to WiFi to encourage loyalty. Most jobs require a TS8PRO switch and a couple of Uni Access Points located on the ceilings. The ceiling mounted Uni has the appearance of a space aged smoke detector. The TS8PRO provides and data and power from a central location. Using a long patch lead (LC6516B) and an app like WiFi Analyzer (Android), you can walk around the site and make a rudimentary assessment of coverage. If it looks good, you can install them in the ceiling!
