In Ischgl new, unknown and gratifying small pistes away from the hustle and bustle are not difficult to find In the Silvretta Arena ski area there are a diverse bunch of fantastic, secluded stretches and scenic gems which feature among the most interesting ski runs recommended in Tyrol. Here are our ultimate skiing tips: Piste No. 5 west run and No. 4: north run Both pistes run from the Pardatschgrat direct to the intermediate station for the Pardatschgratbahn and are very well suited for doing reps. The runs are pretty much ideal in the afternoon, when only a few skiers come up from the valley on the Pardatschgratbahn A2. Piste No. 4 in particular is recommended for assiduous winter athletes. Incidentally, with each circuit skiers amass some 735 metres altitude. Both these ski runs are also suitable for late afternoon descents into the valley. Piste No. 3 Stckabfahrt When all guests want to head into the valley late in the afternoon this piste helps you dodge the throngs. The easiest way to access the piste is via ski run number 2 from Idalp and from Hllboden. This ski run tackles over 500 metres of climbing and is 5 km in length. Piste No. 2b Nachtweide All those skiers who arent so proficient, and families with children who are new to skiing, should feel absolutely tip-top on these slopes when they take the Nachtweidebahn. Piste No. 7 Velilltal Our genuine insider tip anyone who passes through here will be amazed, even if they dont linger. Ultimately the Velliltal ski run is one of the most beautiful pistes in Tyrol in terms of scenery. Those of you who want to find a secluded valley should make use of the Gratbahn B8 or B1. Past the Velillalp there is a wonderful view to the Madlein mountain massif. The 2-seater chairlift, the Velilleck heads to the Pardatschgratbahn A2 intermediate station und then back to the Pardatschgrat again. PIZ VAL GRONDA E5 NEW WINTER 2013/14 You are here: Ski area Piz Val Gronda E5 MILESTONES 150-ATW PIZ VAL GRONDA 19.09.2012 Approval in accordance with nature protection law is issued by the offices of the Tyrolean state government 21.03.2013 Approval for construction in accordance with cable car regulations is issued by the Republic of Austrias Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology 22.03.2013 Digger access under the supervision of the ecological construction supervisory authority 25.03.2013 Start of construction Provisional start-up: Winter 2013/14 PROJECT DESCRIPTION The entire project planning for site 150-ATW Piz Val Gronda took account of technical specifications as well as ecological issues such as planning adapted to the site and use of available infrastructure. Construction of the tramway involves applying the most careful approach in terms of protecting the landscape and ecosystem. Only 2 support sites are required and no cable trench is required along the route. No earthworks are required along the planned ski piste no. 42 with the exceptional of minimal localised stone removal measures. Both of the stations will feature an open style of construction. The mountain and valley stations will be as compact as possible and will fit into the landscape as much as possible. 2 supports will be required along the route. The first support of approx. 90 m high will be located approx. 462 m (cable length) after the valley station and the second support of approx. 64 m high will be based approx. 388 m before the mountain station. The emergency operating concept for the site will enable the tramway to be emptied of passengers in the event of a breakdown (emergency, power cut, technical defect) using 2 independent emergency drive systems. It is therefore highly unlikely that passengers will ever have to be rescued from the cabins. In accordance with the concept for maximising avalanche protection for the construction of the 150ATW Piz Val Gronda, 8 avalanche trigger masts are required but no avalanche protection structures to protect the ski piste. 0 1 PROJECT DESCRIPTION The existing monocable gondola lift with 4-seater gondolas (constructed 1990) has two sections and a middle station but is no longer able to sufficiently serve as a means of transportation to the Ischgl/Idalp ski resort. The bottom section of the existing Pardatschgratbahn cable car will therefore be demolished and a wind-stable tricable gondola lift built in its place from the eastern centre of the town to the Pardatschgrat directly, with no middle station. The top section of the existing facility will remain. Later, it

will be possible to ski down the various attractive descents from the Pardatschgrat to the middle station and in Velill during the morning hours. This currently often results in long waits due to the gondolas from the valley station being full. WORLD RECORD: The new Pardatschgratbahn will have the biggest height difference of any tricable cable car at 1,251 m. The mountain station will be attached to the existing mountain station of the monocable gondola lift. To prepare for any subsidence, the station will be constructed on several individual foundations which can be adjusted using hydraulic heavy duty compressors. The special geological setting also means that the entire mountain station needs to be anchored back around 140m using cables. There will also be disabled access to the Pardorama restaurant. To achieve a harmonious appearance, the architecture of the mountain station has been adapted to the existing building yet is nevertheless unique. Plans for the valley station presented a particular challenge due to the tight space constraints. The station has now been divided in two into the infrastructure section (orographic left) and the cable car section (orographic right of the Fimbabach) and is linked by bridges. A large ski store is being built on the lowest level of the infrastructure section. From here, visitors can access a distribution level with a sports shop and ski hire. The ground floor level contains a counter area with covered queuing area. The top floor of the infrastructure section provides access to the cable car. All of the floors in the infrastructure section are linked via escalators and lifts. The lower floors of the cable car section store the gondolas and contain the service area, storage areas and goods delivery areas. The gondolas are transported from the garage store to the platform. LED lighting will be used to transform the valley station into an attraction even when it is dark outside.

In Austria and in Tyrol in particular cable cars enjoy a tradition which goes back decades. On 15th December 1963 the first cable car in Ischgl was put into operation by Silvrettaseilbahn AG. These days cable cars are among the safest mass transportation methods. All the high safety standards are put forward and monitored by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology and a number of international cable car committees. Moreover, the cable cars and lifts in Ischgl in Tyrol and in Samnaun in Switzerland regularly undergo thorough inspections and tests.

Top modern facilities with the highest comfort

Ischgl sets standards Standing in a queue is somewhat of a rare event, something that the state-of-the-art shutter system which has an enormously high passenger conveyance capacity, ensures. They make sure that skiers spend a lot more of their time on the pistes than anywhere else while they are on holiday. Here you spend hardly any of your time waiting in queues.

It is not just for this reason that Silvrettaseilbahn AG in Tyrol and its Skiarena has received many awards. Our www.skiareatest.com The

With it, more than 3000 people can be

conveyed from Ischgl to the Idalp within an hour. The journey lasts around 15 minutes and proceeds up to 2320 metres altitude. Funitels are extremely stable in the wind and are able to convey large numbers of passengers thanks to their suspension, and provide a high level of comfort and safety. The special features of the system are the two parallel running hoist units, to which the cabins are attached. Each year the Silvrettabahn Funitel takes around 1,400,000 guests quickly and safely to the intermediate and mountain stations of the Silvrettabahn. Each cabin seats around 18 people. How lovely heated seats! You just want to keep sitting there!
Like the Silvretta and the Pardatschgratbahn, the Fimbabahn is located directly in Ischgl town centre. All the cable cars are just a few minutes walk from one another. Like both the other state-ofthe-art cable cars it forms an established mainstay of the infrastructure in the ski area in Ischgl. It scores points not only with the latest technology and high carriage capacity this Tyrolean cable car takes 2800 people per hour quickly and safely up to the mountain station for the Idalp, which, among others, is also the culinary centre of Tyrols Silvretta Arena. Thanks to this capacity no visitor has to stand in queues for the Fimbabahn at the valley station. In addition, the cable car is very popular among skiers and snowboarders due to its heated seats.

After some fifteen minutes the Fimbabahn covers 950 metres altitude and proceeds to the Idalp at 2320 metres altitude.

UP TO THE ALP TRIDA SADDLE IN ONE OF THE MOST STATE-OF-THE-ART CABLE CARS IN THE ALPS

In 1995 with the construction of the Twinliner in Samnaun, Silvretta Arena gained a global innovationwith the state-of-the-art cable car and its twin-storey cabins, ski guests were able to climb aboard on two levels. The Twinliner provides space for around 180 people in total. Every hour the cable car carries 1620 people over 722 metres altitude, covering 2.3 km, up to the Alp Trida saddle (2488m). In addition to its twin-storey cabins, the Twinliner is also one of the most state-of-the-art cable cars in the Alps thanks to its impressive stations in Samnaun and on the Alp Trida saddle! Incidentally safety is very much emphasised in Silvretta Arena the cable cars in the Swiss and Tyrol Alps are regularly and thoroughly checked by independent specialists. Generally cable cars are among the safest mass transport methods. There are a number of national and international cable car committees which ensure that these high quality and safety standards are upheld. ISCHGL'S HISTORY OF SKIING Facts & History...of Silvrettaseilbahn AG You are here: Ski area Building blog & Facts Facts & History

So whats in the numbers 36, 400,000 and 25 million? Be amazed here! Fact ...every night in this ski area in Tyrol 36 piste machines prepare the slopes to ensure perfect skiing! ...each of these piste machines cost around 400,000 Euro! ...the lift facilities are able to transport around 86,000 people every hour! ...the cable cars and lifts are used almost 25 million times in winter! ...in the ski area a lot of the piste areas are mowed and mulched which has a very positive effect on the variety of species, the vegetation, the landscape and also ensures replenishment Who sees to it that Ischgl in Tyrol is one of the most snow-assured ski areas in the Alps? Ischgl can count itself lucky with its all-round high altitude level location in the Paznaun region at between 1400 and 2872 metres, positioned between the Silvretta and the Verwall mountain groups. However it is not only its location which is crucial; around 1100 snow canons and lances are used on a total of 238 kilometres of pistes, guaranteeing snow-assuredness from the end of November until the start of May just in case Mother Nature wants to take a holiday for once. The snow-making facilities in Ischgl are also continually improved, which means that optimum conditions for skiing are almost always guaranteed. At any rate, almost 80% of all ski pistes can be covered with snow by snow canons and lances. What does the ski area look like in summer? In the summer months the pistes are used as Alpine pastures. This means that today in Ischgl more cows can now graze on the pastures of the mountain slopes than before the time the ski area was opened up. The regions farmers are responsible for fertilising and managing the pistes in the summer months. Moreover, our staff spend a month clearing all the pistes of rubbish. It is also worth mentioning that all the restaurants and WC facilities in the ski are connected to the local sewerage system. These endeavours to help keep the environment in good working order in the Silvretta Arena have not gone unnoticed. A few years ago the readers of Ski Magazin voted Ischgl the most environment ally-friendly ski area. Consequently, Ischgl is not just one of the most snow-assured ski areas in the Alps, it is also a forerunner in environmental protection.
