Terms of trade & ordering information

Official orders from account customers must be accompanied by an appropriate order number Payment within 30 days from receipt of invoice, all goods remain the property of supplier until full payment is recieved. Orders for non account customers can be made on the internet, by post or telephone. Goods ordered are invoiced to include delivery and VAT; Payment must be made prior to the dispatch of the goods. Proforma invoices can be sent on request but please do not send cheques before receiving confirmation of the total amount due. We endeavour to despatch orders in 7 working days plus delivery time of up to 3 days. If you are planning to purchase materials for workshops please allow for this as it is not always possible to respond to urgent requests. VAT at the prevailing rate, currently 20%, is applicable to all goods except books. The prices quoted in this catalogue are exclusive of VAT. Delivery charges include postage and packaging and insurance. Charges are based upon the weight and volume of the order. Parcels weighing above 1kg are sent by 24hr parcelforce, the current charge is 6.99 plus VAT per parcel for mainland uk, other areas vary. Small items weighing less than 1 kg including packing materials are sent by 1st class recorded delivery. Minimum deliver charge is 2.50. Please note when ordering paper that it requires careful packing therefore normally weighs above 1kg. We are always happy to give a quote upon request.

E. C. Lyons USA rockers are known world-wide as the finest mezzotint rockers available. These tools come in standard sizes from 1/2 to 6 wide. The gauge sizes are: Course 45, Medium 65, 85 and Fine 100 (lines per inch). By working (rocking) the tool over the plate in a criss-cross fashion, the burrs created, produce rich velvety blacks unequaled in any other intaglio medium. Order by width and gauge. Special orders available upon request.

Gutenberg Etching inks

These inks are very highly pigmented, used carefully a little goes a long way. The colours are beautiful and the range contains colours not available in other brands, for example a proper cerulean blue and a fantastic pink magenta. The black is slightly cheaper than the Charbonnel 55985 and will out perform it, and most other ready - mixed blacks. It is very strong but easy as anything to wipe. Akua Water Based Etching Ink

A water based intaglio ink made with the highest quality gum binders and light fast pigments. The consistency of the ink may vary as water in the ink can cause the gums in the ink to swell and soften, so the ink may become loose when exposed to heat or left out on the slab over a period of time. Wiping the plate with water based ink is quicker than oil based ink so less wiping pressure is advised. Akua ink does not skin or harden and cleans up easily with soap and water. It is safe to use without ventilation

All our hand rollers are supplied in Nitrile PVC due to the great popularity of this material. Nitrile PVC has all the properties of polyurethane but in many ways it is superior. It will not be adversely affected by water or ultraviolet light, and will not soften over time, yet it matches the polyurethane in its toughness and its quality of surface. Our spindle rollers are manufactured from Nitrile PVC, cured and ground on a hollow aluminium core. We supply two standard sizes as listed below, but are happy to quote you on larger rollers. When ordering rollers please specify the shore hardness you require, our standard shore is 30=soft, 40= firm, or anything harder up to 70 shore. Endgrain Woodblocks
Wood Engraving Blocks
Endgrain blocks are employed by wood engravers because even, precise cutting across the growth rings is possible in a way that side grain would not allow. Relatively few woods are good for this purpose, and only a very small number perform exceptionally well. Boxwood is the traditional choice due to its outstanding, and unique, properties. Genuine Boxwood (Buxus Serpervirens) is very dense, even and easy to engrave, allowing the artist to engrave the finest possible lines without crumbling. English boxwood blocks have always been much sought after. Lemon is a very good alternative to boxwood. Although not quite as dense as boxwood, it is used by many leading engravers on a regular basis, especially when larger blocks are required due to its more modest cost. Pearwood also makes a suitable engraving surface. Whilst not as dense as either Box or Lemonwood, it nethertheless engraves evenly and gives good results. Good for beginners who do not want to experiment on more costly woods, and for bolder styles of engraving. Care of endgrain Blocks. Endgrain wood is especially susceptable to changes in temperature and humidity. The structure of endgrain fibres is such that the wood absorbs and distributes heat and moisture much more readily than sidegrain. With this in mind blocks should be housed in as stable an atmosphere as possible, in cool and dry conditions and away from sources of heat such as radiators and direct sunlight. if engraving by work lamp then try to avoid placing it too near the large blocks, and never leave the block exposed to the lamp after finishing work. Always store blocks on the end, like books on a shelf. This is especially important with larger blocks. Most engravers tone or blacken the block surface in preparation for engraving, and it is important to be as sparing as possible with the water based media since too much wetting will open up the wood fibres. All blocks are made by Chris Daunt who has made engraving blocks for many years and is a wood engraver and an elected member of the society of Wood Engravers. Large blocks and non standard sizes are available to order.

Fabric Printing Inks
These inks are formulated for fabric screen-printing. They do not contain solvents, are non-toxic and non-flammable, drying to a smooth matte finish. Prints have a soft handle and are wash fast if property heat-set. After the ink has dried, heat-set for 5 minutes at 150 C or 3 minutes at 200 C. Alternatively, iron the reverse side for 3 minutes with a hot iron (use the normal fabric setting), Wash the fabric inside out. The inks can be used in cotton, polyester and blends, linen, rayon, fibreglass, and other synthetic fabrics. Intaglio Printmaker Etching Press

This traditional style etching press has been popular with our customers for over 15 years and is available to view and / or test in our studio. This press has a large diameter handwheel that makes turning very easy and a 1/2 inch steel bed and solid rollers. Designed as an etching press the Intaglio Printmaker press is equally efficient for printing relief blocks and collagraphs, making it a versatile model for a range of printmaking applications.

These presses have been designed to be maintenance free for the convenience of the artist. If the press is to be placed in a damp environment we recommend the use of a metal protector on the rollers and bed.

Presses Intaglio Printmaker

Intaglio Printmaker is pleased to offer presses and hot plates from this reputable Dutch company. Polymetaal has a long history in the design and manufacture of printmaking equipment. Equipment carries a ten year guarantee, except for parts provided by suppliers which carry the guarantee of the manufacturers. All Intaglio presses are fitted with an extremely hard synthetic bed and are also fitted with springs under the top roller. The loosening of the pressure spindles raises the top roller to facillitate relief printing techniques. We have included summary descriptions of our standard ranges. Unless otherwise indicated, the prices listed here are inclusive of crating and delivery to the UK within the M25. Please note that delivery is made via a courier only to the door and you will be required to put the press in situ yourself. A full installation service is often prefered on the larger presses - arrangments and charges for this are available on application. For presses going to other destinations please ask for a quotation. Prices are listed without VAT which is chargeable to EC customers at 20%. All dimensions are in centimeters. Delivery time is up to three months from the date of order, a 25% (gross) deposit is required.

As in the HP- series the distinguishing feature of the HPV- series is the upper roller drive. A gear ratio of 1:3.5 ensures a uniform motion during the printing process. Heavy duty double chains that drive the gearing are encased in a safety cover on the opposite side of the press as the driving wheel. The presses in the JW - series are designed for heavy duty use in, for example, printmaking studios. Construction is similar to the presses in the JPV - Series, the differences having to do with heavier production needs and the elongated side frames in the JW- 100 and JW - 120 presses for increased support. These presses are lower roller driven and delivered with perforations on its sideframe to enable tabletop fastening. These lightweight presses are easily transported to relocated. If you do not wish to incur a delivery charge please state when ordering, presses purchased by this method may take three months and will be shipped direct from the manufacturer.

The action of the aquatint boxes in the SK - Series is based on the hand driven paddle wheel. This traditional method is still able to guarantee the most even distribution of rosin on the plate.
