To listen effectively you must believe what the other person says is important You cannot talk and listen at the same time. Silence is essential to good listening Empathy is extremely important in encouraging others to talk Good listening requires that you focus on three aspects of what the person is saying: verbal content, inflections and body language Remember, if you are thinking about a reply or comment while the other person is talking ,you are not paying attention and you are not listening. When this happens, communication is not taking place

Develop the habit of reading ( in addition to News paper). Have goals on reading specific number of books in a month/year Develop the habit of referring Dictionary to know the meaning of new words you come across Watch English news channel, English movies as and when you get time Take time to visit the TalkEnglish site for your development in various aspects of English language. Have a goal couple of hours once in a fortnight
