Dear Friend,
Greetings to you on this beautiful summer day! The Lord is
moving by His Spirit at the church. It’s so exciting to see people’s lives
transformed before our very eyes by the power of God! This truly is the day the
Lord has made!
There is a very special woman that has been coming to our church lately.
She has been taking our Bible study on Wednesday nights and has been receiving
a lot from God’s Word. It has changed the way she thinks, acts, speaks, and lives.
The Lord has been speaking to her heart about a closer walk with Him and she is
responding to it. Last week she was water baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. It
was such an exciting time! Her countenance changed so completely that she told
us a few days later she thought she would never be rid of her heavy heartedness.
The things that she was carrying in her heart aged her and left her troubled. But
when she was baptized Jesus took away the heavy load she was bearing and lifted
her up. Her whole expression changed when she came out of the water: she was
overwhelmed by the grace of God! She truly was a new creature! She told us the
things that caused her great sorrow were a real part of her life. But after being
baptized, they seemed like they were no longer hers: that life is now gone and she
feels brand new!
Many people know a lot of things about the Lord but unfortunately they
don’t know Him. He is wonderful and gracious to those who call on His name. He
will save and strengthen and guide all who put their trust in Him. He is the author
and finisher of our faith. We weren’t born with faith. The Bible plainly teaches us
that faith is a gift from God to believing sinners (Some people think they never
sinned, but that, too, is a false notion). When we open our hearts to His voice and
respond to His call, He comes to us and gives us His grace and mercy. He will
never leave the person who looks to Him by faith. He will never cast out those
who trust Him. The song writer had it right when he sang, “He may not come
when you want Him; but He’s always on time! Give Him a chance; He’ll work it
out!”
There have been many answers to prayer lately at church. We serve a God
who answers prayer! The Lord Jesus said, “Therefore I say unto you, what
things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye
shall have them” (Mark 11:24). It’s no use praying if we don’t believe the Lord
wants to answer, or we can’t see beyond the circumstances. Is there anything too
hard for the Lord? After all, He is the same one who rose from the dead! He is the
one who forgave and cleansed us from our sins by His own blood. He made it
possible for you and me to have contact with Him by faith. There is only one thing
that can spark your faith and make it a workable thing in your life. That is a word
called “love.” The Bible says that faith worketh by love. Without love faith is
dead. Love is the motivating factor of faith. Did you ever hold a grudge against
someone and notice that God wasn’t answering your prayers? You may even think
you are justified to feel that way, but faith will never work outside the realm of
love. It is impossible, according to the Bible. My suggestion to you would be to
frankly forgive the one who upsets you or did you wrong, leave the situation with
God and be free from it! Let the Lord deal as He will with them, but as for you,
keep love alive in your heart. Don’t become cold and hard through the
deceitfulness of sin and the ways of the world. You may not see things the way
God sees things anyway. He sees it all. Let Him deal with them. But keep yourself
in the love of God. Then, the Bible says, your faith will be able to work and
prayers will start being answered. Your darkness will become like the noon day
and your health shall spring forth speedily. Keep yourself free from offenses and
walk in the liberty wherewith Christ has made you free!
