O UTREACH S ERVICES OF THE Q UEZON C ITY P UBLIC L IBRARY

QCPL continues to provide outreach services
not only to Quezon City Residents but also to
libraries from other cities and municipalities in
the country. This has been the advocacy of the
incumbent City Librarian, Ms. Emelita L.
Villanueva. Last January 6, 2009, QCPL do-
nated assorted reference books for the under-
privileged students at Porac, Pampanga.
QCPL staff also presented a Puppet Show.
And on January 29, 2009, Librarians from
Arayat, Pampanga also got their share of
book donations. The books were part of the
solicited reference materials from CI Philip-
pines, which is being shared by the library.

To date QCPL has twenty branch libraries serving in the different districts in Quezon City. They
have been very active in their outreach activities and continuously conducting storytelling, film
showing, puppet shows and information literacy seminars, all under the able leadership of Mr.
Troy Lacsamana, Head of the Outreach services for Branch Libraries, Ms. Jeniffer Adajo,
branch coordinator for Districts 1 and 2, and Ms. Janet Alday, coordinator for Districts 3 and 4.

The QC Public library celebrated Public Library
Day with a Storytelling and Spelling Bee con-
tests. District III and IV held a storytelling con-
test last March 4, 2009 while District I and II
held a spelling bee last March 5, 2009. The
storytelling competition was held at Cubao
Branch Library with Grade V pupils of said dis-
tricts as participants. The contest's winner was
Angel T. Ramirez of Valencia Elementary
School. Prizes given were books and trophy for
the winner and books and medals for the par-
ticipants. Judges were Bgy. Captain Efren
Cudal of Bgy. Galas, Kagawad conchita S.
Noma of Bgy. Kamuning, Bgy. Captain Fer-
nandito Ortiz of Bgy. Escopa II, Kagawad
Joven Lauror of Bgy. Pansol and Mrs. Janet
Alday, Librarian, coordinator of Districts III
and IV.
While the spelling contest in District I and
II was held at the Novaliches Library and In-
formation Technology Center. The first prize
winner was Aya Brea Araujo of Placido Ele-
mentary School. The judges were Mr. Czar
Mendoza, Mrs. Cynthia D.J. Tolado, Librarian
V of the Quezon City Public library and Mrs.
Mariza G. Chico of the Reference Services of
QCPL Main Library.
Another branch library, the Bgy. Bagong
Pag-asa Library was also inaugurated last
March 10, 2009. The ceremonial ribbon was
cut by Hon. Congressman of District I Bing-
bong Crisologo, assisted by Bgy. Captain
Fermin Bilaos of Bgy. Bagong Pag-asa and
the City Librarian Mrs. Emelita L. Villanueva.
