Exploring The Three Branches Of American Government

US Government

Mr. Caldwell

Constitution
Our government was designed and created by our founding fathers in the United States Constitution.

They decided that it was important to create a system in which no one person or organization could hold supreme power over the nation. The first three articles of the Constitution outlined the organization and structure of our government. Article One - Legislative Branch Article Two - Executive Branch Article Three - Judicial Branch

WHY THREE BRANCHES?

Now that we are familiar with each of the three branches of government lets explore the system of Checks and Balances Our founding fathers created a system of checks and balances between each branch of the government in order to prevent any one branch or person from becoming too powerful.

Checks and Balances

The Executive Branch can veto bills passed by the Legislative branch. The President is Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy, but only Congress can declare War The Legislative Branch can create laws but the Judicial Branch can declare them as unconstitutional The Legislative Branch has to confirm the presidents cabinet members and can impeach the president The Judicial Branch can declare the presidents actions as unconstitutional
