Troy, Ohio

Vol. XXXVIII Issue 11

From The Prez While Janie and I were visiting friends in Pennsylvania last month, we took a side trip to the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. Located on a 2,600 acre mountaintop near Reading, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary was founded in 1934 and is the worlds first refuge for birds of prey. There are (8) miles of hiking trails with many scenic overlooks. The day we were there we saw mostly vultures, but did manage to view a few hawks and eventually a Bald Eagle. The visitor center was very nice and even had a display of (16) species of wood carved raptors hanging from the ceiling. The realistic birds were carved from tupelo by a local artist and were completed over a (2) year period. If any of you nature lovers or bird carvers are ever in the Reading, PA area, I highly recommend that you visit Hawk Mountain. Butch Nov Program Our speaker this month will be Rob Schmidt talking about the Miami County Park Districts Maple Syrup program. Another tasty program! Think he will have samples? Cookies Cookie volunteers for November are JoAnn Moran and Charlie Cooke.
