The analysis of a design is carried on the different variations of wing configurations and tail configurations using MatLab by the other members in the team. While they are preparing the theoretical analysis and calculations using MatLab, I will prepare the 3D models of the UAV with different matches of wing1, wing 2 and tail configurations by using Vehicle Sketch Pad. Next, the best design identified will be converted or drawn in CAD software such as CATIA for further modelling. The whole process will be looped in order to produce another design of the Surveillance UAV.

The flow chart of the CAD & Layout Engineers Task Planning

The design process of the UAV is according to the existing design in the market. However, the design will be change in order to meet the design requirements. Since our team, Airwalker Team has decided to construct an unconventional UAV, the parameters of the design will be limited. The existing design of unconventional UAV in the market will be our reference. The parameters of the existing UAV design will be use to make estimatation of the parameters for the final design. However for the purpose of trade studies, a conventional UAV will be design. The conventional UAV is a normal type of UAV found in the market. The data is easier to compute since the existing equations or formula can be use to estimate the parameters such as lift and drag coefficient, contribution of stability, structure and etc. The parameters compute using the equations or formula can be compare with the existing parameters of the UAV. Furthermore, on each design the configuration of the wings, tails or fuselage will be change in order to optimize the performance of the UAV. The trade studies of each configuration will be done and the related engineers will do the analysis and choose the best configuration to be place on

the UAV. The trade studies will comprised of advantages and disadvantages according to the design requirements. The analysis of the configuration of the UAV parts will be done before the optimization process and after the process, the final design will be decided according to the obtained analysis. Iterative process is a must process during the design process. The process will include during the UAV configuration analysis and optimization process. The process require the CAD and Layout engineers to design the UAV according to the parameters and data obtained during the analysis. The best outcome or result of the analysis which meet the design requirement will be chosen. The total design for Airwalker Team is four. The designs comprised of two unconventional, one conventional and one combination of unconventional and conventional. The trade studies will be done on these four UAV designs. The advantages and disadvantages of each design will be listed for use of the engineers during the design process. The aspects such as manufacturability, stability, cost, available motor and etc will be taken into account before the final design will be decide. The last process of the designing process will be the create the CAD model of the UAV using CATIA. After all the design and analysis process is done, the Layout and CAD engineers will create the 3D model of the UAV. This 3D model will include the details dimension, engine layout, structure layout and etc.

Chart 1: CAD and Layout Engineer Tasks Layout Design Catalogue Preparation Catalogue Preparation is one of the important start off point; the layout engineer need to do some study on the several configuration such as Wing, Tail, Propulsion and also Landing Gear in order to sketch the UAV to meet the requirement. The layout engineer need to knowledge the basics function of the entire configuration, the advantages and disadvantages of certain parts.

Chart 2: CAD & Layout Catalogue I drafted the catalogue as show in the Chart 2. Most of the sources are from Daniel P. Raymer Aircraft Design: A Conceptual Approach, Mohammed H. Sadready Aircraft Design: A systems engineering approach. I will always keep updating the catalogue, so I can improvise the design. Sketching Selection In this part, I will provide all my sketches to the other expect team. They will decide whether the design satisfy with our main requirement by using the MatLab program. Drawing For the second task, it is more on the engineering drawing. Phase 1 1) Sketching Hand sketching, the layout engineer need to sketch all the possible sketch on paper. Most of the sketches are sketched in the orthographic view. That mean, other expect group can know the 2D view from the sketch. The layout should not think about the dimension. Besides, the sketches need to meet all the requirement from the customers.

Figure 1: Simple Sketch of the UAV with description 2) Nasa's OpenVSP By using NASA OpenVSP, the layout can generate the UAV in 3D model. This is a fast way to generate UAV without any specified dimension. It can show how the UAV designs look like. Phase 2 In the final phase, I will obtain the data from other expect group to draw the 3D model of the UAV. I am using the CATIA to generate the 3D model with the exact dimension from the other. Besides, I have to draw the detail drawing; the 3D model must include the payload, engine and structure (Note: Balsa Wood).
