Key Idea: Students will learn 6,7 and 8 times tables through deriving from the known 5 times tables Distributive property (splitting factors), e.g 8x7 (8x5)+(8x2). The sets of 5 have been distributed (split)into sets of 5 and 2. Key Knowledge required: 2,3 and 5 times tables up through 10 and back through 10 addition and subtraction strategies (48+6=48+2+4=54 and 54-6=54-4-2=48) add 2 digit numbers (7x7=7x5+7x2=35+14) Learning Intentions: (WALT): Work out my 6, 7 and 8 times tables from my times 5 tables Use my 10 facts to work out my 9 times tables. Key Idea: Connection between 5+5+5 and 3x5 Language of multiplication (rows, lots, sets of). Creating arrays and adding and removing rows to derive facts. 4 5 =?, 5 5 =?, 6 5 =? Key Knowledge required: skip counting forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s and 10s. Language of multiplication (rows, lots, sets of). Learning Intentions: (WALT): Solve multiplication problems using repeated addition Solve 5 and 10 times tables by doubling and halving (and learn them!)
