I was sitting with my family in our T.V lounge.

I was reading a magazine; my parents

were watching news and my brothers had videogames in their hand. Suddenly, I
heard something on the T.V and I put the magazine aside and started watching the
T.V. The news-caster was saying, “Today 50 people died in drone attacks…” “100
terrorist died during the Swat operation”.

As soon as I heard this, I remembered the Ayah I read in Quran today. “You are the
best nation raised for the whole mankind.”

I thought that if Allah (swt) has told us that we are the best, then why is this thing
happening to us? Afghanistan, Iraq, Xing Jiang, Chechnya, Palestine and now
Pakistan too. Why the Muslims blood has become so cheap?? About which I had
heard a hadis that Rasul (saw) said that Muslims blood is more precious to him than
the Kaa’ba and its surroundings. Then I heard another part of that ayah. It was that
you enjoin the good and forbid the evil. And this was it!!! We are not the best nation
now because we are not enjoining the good and not forbidding the munkar. I
shouted suddenly “THIS IS THE KEY”. My Parents gazed at me and by brothers
looked angrily at me as they missed the ball in the videogame.

I silently stood up and went into my room. I thought that if we want to become the
best nation then the key to this is to start doing Amar bil maroof and Nahin anil
Munkar. But what is Maroof?? And what is Munkar?? I was thinking but was not
getting the correct answer until my Father came in my room and asked why I left
the lounge. I told him about all the thoughts I am having and the confusion about
maroof and Munkar. He smiled and said, “Ok. I’ll explain.”

“Maroof means Islam and not just any Islam, COMPLETE Islam.”

I asked him: “what is complete Islam?”

He said, “Complete Islam means the complete Islamic Aqeedah. Islamic Aqeedah is
both a Spiritual Aqeedah and a political Aqeedah. The different Aqaid in this world,
whether it is Christianity, Hinduism, Capitalism or socialism, they are either spiritual
or political. But the Islamic Aqeedah is unique one. It give laws regarding the
relationship of a person with Allah (swt) like Namaz, Rozah, Zakat etc and it also
provides laws regarding ourselves like what to eat and how to dress. These two are
the spiritual aspects…”

“Then where is the political aspect?” I was so excited that I cut his sentence.

He smiled again and said, “I was about to come to that dear. Our Aqeedah also
provides laws regarding the relationships among the people and the system on
them. These laws also include government, transactions, foreign policy etc. this is
the political aspect and it covers about 80% of Islam.”
I said excitingly, “now I got it! Today people are preaching only about the spiritual
aspect of our deen. They are forgetting about the political aspect, the system of
Islam.”

Dad asked,”And do you know what the system of Islam is? I give you 3 options:

1) Democracy 2) Khilafah 3) Dictatorship.

He was smiling. I’ve heard of democracy during these days and dictatorship during
Pervaiz Musharraf’s rule but Khilafah………………..OH YA!!! I’ve heard it when my
Islamiat teacher was telling about the Khulfa-e-Rashideen. I said, “Khilafah!!!”

My father said, “Yes dear. Khilafah. It is a divine system given to us my Allah (swt). If
we want to do Amar bil maroof, we would have to tell people about the political
aspect too i.e. about the system of Islam which is Khilafah.

I asked, “And what is forbidding the Munkar means?”

“Forbidding the Munkar”, he said, “is to account all the things that are Non-Islamic.
Not only to account the society of their non-Islamic concepts but also to account the
rulers and openly say about their plans and strategies against Islam which is the
biggest Munkar”

I was amazed because I just thought the link between the two parts of the Ayah. I
said to my father, “Now I can make a link between the Ayah. If we want to become
the best nation, we would have to do Amar bil maroof and Nahin anil Munkar and
when we will do this we will be able to establish Khilafah which will bring peace and
prosperity to the world. The Muslim countries will unite under one Caliph and will
become the best nation.”

My father looked proudly at me smiling and said, “Very good. Now u know better
what you have to do” and went out of my room.

As he left, I had firmly decided that starting from today; I’ll start Amar bil maroof
and Nahin anil Munkar and tell others to do the same. I will also study all the
material regarding our system of Khilafah so that I may also be able to do Dawa.
