Approaches to learning and teaching

This course emphasizes the interaction not only between course coordinator and students but more importantly among students. The lively peer interaction as a cornerstone of learner centered teaching method enables students to challenge conventional thinking, engage in debates to test ideas and provide solutions to real-life business and management problems. A set of readings will be assigned for each week.

Teaching strategies
The learning apparatus in this course consists of interactive discussion and case study analysis sessions. Interactive discussion sessions expound the appropriate theoretical content of the text and relevant readings. This will provide the learning opportunity through a direct interaction among students and course coordinator. Case study discussion sessions are strongly oriented towards peer interaction for the extensive discussion of the text and cases. In order to gain most from the discussions and class activities, the assigned text/reading should be read before the class to participate in the class discussion.

Class Participation
Various discussion techniques and presentations will be used in class. For these techniques to be effective, the students must do the following: Prepare for every class so that you can contribute to the discussion and also appreciate what is being said. Adequate preparation requires more than just simply reading the assigned material. Rather, you should have analyzed all important issues, taken a position on them and be prepared to support them.

Business Policy & Strategy

Participate in every class. Participation can take many forms including making a comment, questioning and synthesizing what has been said. If a fellow student makes a point you disagree with, do not let it go unchallenged. At all times, please be respectful of others and refrain from personal comments. Keep in mind that the amount of knowledge you gain from this course depends directly on your level of preparation and participation. Furthermore, the skills you develop through participation are as valuable as the techniques you learn in the course.
