History of the RAC Cabins

Cabin A: This building is clearly of different construction than the other Finnish cabins, but probably dates back to the earliest days of camp and has always been Cabin A. Cabin B: Most likely served as a cabin during the earliest days of camp, but became the office sometime during the 1930s and stayed so until the building of the Cedars in 1960.

Cabin C: This cabin has always stood in this location. It may have been called Cabin B for a few years. Cabin D: The camp icehouse originally stood in this location. After it was torn down, this space stood empty for a while. Sometime in the 1950s, Cabin J (between the current Castle and Mess Hall) was moved to become the current Cabin D.

Cabin E: This cabin may have served as the office for a brief time in the very early days of camp. It was probably known as Cabin D until the current Cabin D was moved into its current location. Between E & F (The Burned-Down Cabin): This building was located between the current Cabins E and F, oriented in the same direction as the current Cabin F. It was initially known as Cabin E, but became Cabin F after D was relocated. This cabin burned down during Milwaukee Country Day's football camp in 1966.

Cabin F: This building has served more functions than any other building in camp. It was initially the stables. From 1950-1957 it served as Cabin X. It then became the Nature Cabin, and finally became the current Cabin F sometime after the old Cabin F burned down.

Cedars: It's not clear what originally stood in this location. By 1950, Cabin Y (Why O Why is Y So Wide?) stood in this location with its famous depressed dirt floor. By 1959 this building had been destroyed to make way for the current Cedars.

Cabin G: Initially referred to as Cabin F, it became Cabin G after the reshuffle. Cabin H: Initially referred to as Cabin G, it became Cabin H after the reshuffle Between Cabin H & Castle: This space was home to the original Cabin H. After the reshuffle of Cabin D it became Cabin I, and then it was moved in 1965 to become the current Manor. Castle: Originally Cabin I, it became Cabin J after the Cabin D reshuffle, and then became Cabin I again after the old I was moved to become the Manor. It was renamed Castle during the Krohn years.

Between Castle and the Mess Hall: Originally Cabin J, this building was moved to become Cabin D. Manor: A shoddy Cabin K stood in this location, probably built around 1944. It seems to have been torn down after the current Chalet was built sometime after 1952. In 1965, Cabin I was moved to this location and referred to as Cabin J for a few years until the Krohn's christened it the "Manor".

Chalet: Built sometime after 1952, it was referred to as Cabin K initially before having its name changed to the "Chalet" in 1958. Chateau: Always and evermore the senior cabin
