Congress to probe SSS late & inaccurate postings of members contributions & amortizations
A House member has called on the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability to immediately look into the Social Security Systems reported delays and erroneous postings of monthly contributions and loan amortizations of SSS memberbeneficiaries !ep "ichael Angelo !ivera #Party-list$ %-CA!&' said Congress must promptly investigate the matter and thereafter pass remedial measures to prevent further perpetuation of the delays and erroneous postings of members contributions and make the SSS a true channel that promotes social (ustice and able to deliver its mandate to the people He further said that in light of the problems encountered by SSS members$ the e)ecutive branch should immediately undertake appropriate administrative actions against the inefficiencies and neglect of duties$ and identify those responsible to prevent the demoralization of the hard*orking members of the agency +n recent *eeks$ he said SSS members have complained about the inefficiencies and negligence in the performance of the duties and responsibilities of the state-run agency ,-oan releases and other services take several months to get results and at times$ the long *ait is in vain Complaints directed to the SSS president and chief e)ecutive remain unheeded despite letters sent to the main office of the SSS$. said !ivera$ *ho sought an in/uiry through House !esolution 01% 2he second-term la*maker said the late and inaccurate postings of SSS contributions have driven members to borro* money from lenders at high interest rates Amid these problems$ he said the SSS even announced an increase in the monthly contributions of members starting 3anuary 45%6 !ivera cited that !epublic Act 7474 provides it is the policy of the State to establish$ develop$ promote and perfect a sound and viable ta)-e)empt social security system suitable to the needs of the people throughout the Philippines *hich shall promote social (ustice and provide meaningful protection to members and their families against the hazards of disability$ sickness$ maternity$ resulting in loss of income or financial burden 2o*ards this end$ the State shall endeavor to e)tend social security protection to *orkers and their beneficiaries ,Hence$ there is a need to evaluate the present set-up of the SSS in order to ascertain *hether it should be allo*ed to increase monthly contributions$. !ivera said #05' rbb
