GAMMA group Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare Viale dellUniversita 2, 35020 Legnaro (Padova) Italy.

Postdoctoral position within the Nuclear Structure Group at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro (INFN).
The Nuclear Structure Research Groups of the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro, the Padova section of Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN), and of the University of Padova offer a postdoctoral position within the national PRIN project Developments of new dete ctors and analysis techniques for experiments with radioactive beams at the National Laboratories of INFN, with special reference to the SPES project. The main research area of the group is in nuclear structure physics with gamma-ray spectroscopy methods. The research activity focuses on studies of atomic nuclei under extreme conditions using the most advanced gamma-ray spectroscopy methods and associated equipment. Major projects where the group is involved are the Advanced Gamma-ray Tracking Array (AGATA), GALILEO, TRACE and NEDA. Within this project, the postdoctoral fellow will be involved in the building and commissioning of the new gamma-ray spectrometer GALILEO as well as in the future physics campaign. The main R&D activities for GALILEO address the building of the new triple cluster detectors and their anti Compton shields, of a new digital electronics and of the data acquisition system. GALILEO will be a powerful array to address new and challenging problems of the nuclear matter: the high gammaray detection efficiency allow for the investigation of weakly populated structure in nuclei to reveal the most intimate properties of the protonneutron interaction inside the nuclei; the new data taking electronics will allow for higher event rates and consequently higher intensity beams could be used; the construction of the array is based on a high flexibility concept facilitating further upgrading of the array and the coupling to stateoftheart ancillary detectors such as chargedparticle and neutron arrays, plunger and recoil detectors, to improve the sensitivity of the experiments. The fellow is expected to have a PhD degree or equivalent qualification and not to exceed the age limit of 34 years. The annual gross salary is 24,000 . Applicants will be called for an interview and if positively assessed, the postdoctoral position will be granted initially for one year that might be extended to a second year. The deadline for sending the documentation to INFN will be around the middle of January 2014. For further information, applicants might contact Jose Javier Valiente Dobon (valiente@lnl.infn.it), Daniele Mengoni (mengoni@pd.infn.it) and Francesco Recchia (recchia@pd.infn.it). The details for the formal application will be provided to the eligible candidates interested in the fellowship.
