Assembly with Prescribed Temperature Constraints LectureNotes Prescribed Temperature The prescribed temperature boundary condition simulates a constant temperature maintained on the references you select. It will appear in a fringe plot as a constant color corresponding to the specified temperature. This boundary condition can only be
applied to geometric references. Prescribed temperature constraints can be applied using one of three spatial variations: uniform variations, symbolically driven functions, or by tabular data driven variations. Prescribed temperature cannot be varied with respect to time. Task 1. Open the Mechanica application and create boundary conditions to simulate a Prescribed Temperature of 38 C on some localized external surfaces in the PRESC_TEMP_3.PRT component.
1. Click Applications > Mechanica. Note that PRESC_TEMP_3.PRT contains several surface regions. You will be assigning Prescribed Temperatures to these surfaces.
3. Click New to create a new boundary condition set. In the Name field, type Presc_Temp_BC and click OK. This is a recommended procedure that enables the constraint sets (if more than one) to be easily identified in the analysis definition window.
4. Verify that the References type is set to Surfaces, press CTRL and select the surface regions as shown in the figure.
5. Type 38 in the Value field and verify that the unit field is set to C. The dialog box should now appear as shown in the figure. 6. Click OK to create the boundary condition and close the Prescribed Temperature dialog box.
7. The mode should now appear as shown in the figure (load selected for clarity).
3. Click File > Erase > Current > Select All memory. This completes the procedure.
