Values
In order to begin this new chapter of making Legacy designs, they set core values that would be integrated into each and every project. They wanted to expand the definition Landscape Architecture beyond art and environment; community and economics are just as vital for a project to be sustainable. According to the Design Workshop website, they believed that this new approach would make people understand that beauty is essential to humanity. The keyword Legacy, speaks to the character of the firm; a project should be able to sustain itself over a long period of time.
Environment: Valuing natural systems and resources. Creating a design that should protect the land, but also condition it to support itself long-term. Art: Beauty is timeless. It creates a destination that is attractive, and gives meaning to the project. It also increases economic value which then makes the project more viable and ensures its longevity.
Economics: Amount of money that is necessary to make a project. In order to protect the integrity of a project, it needs long-term economic viability.
Community: Unifying families, cultures, towns and cities. Community is always the main basis for Their method to put these elements together is more than just problem solving. The project should be relevant to issues during the time period. 1
Todd Johnson joined Design Workshop in 1996. He believes, Design values begin in the Academy. This means that if leaving a legacy is the overall goal while designing, then it makes the project better because the designer was conscious not only about the artistic aspect, but also trying to balance the project to move closer to the center. However, Legacy design is merely a theory. By following these steps it does not guarantee that every project will be a sustainable masterpiece, but it does guarantee that if these four elements are used during the analysis process it will lead to expanding the possibilities of making a project reach its fullest potential.

This means people are m ore open-minded, and are trying to encompass all things that will make the project reach its unique potential.
