GISProfile SDIInvolvement

AbuDhabiWater&ElectricityAuthority(ADWEA)inFebruary2001implementedafasttrackenterpriseGISprojecttotransform andintegratethemainstreamoftheWaterandElectricitybusinessactivitiesintodigitallyseamless,qualitative,modernutility environment.ADWEAGISobjectiveswerethereforesettointegrateTransmissionandDistributionoperation,planning, management,revenue&sales(billing),andcustomerservicetoproduceanelectronicseamlesswaterandelectricityutility systemenvironment,thatprovidestheCustomerwithaHigherQualityofServices. ADWEAhasbeenoneofthemembersoftheADSDIsince2007.ADWEAhascooperatedcloselywithADSDIDataclearing house,providingonquarterlybasisacompletesetofADWEAUtilityAssetDatacomprisingofElectrical,WaterDistributionand TransmissioninadditiontoSeweragecollectionnetworkcoveringseamlesslythewholeEmirateofAbuDhabi. DuringthelasttwoyearsADWEAhasworkedwithADSDICon: DefiningaSimplifiedUtilityDataModel:incorporatesthenecessarydatastructureandcomponentsofwater,sewerand electricaldatasetsandfeatureswhichareavailablethroughtheADSDIportaltotheADSDIcommunityforviewing.Thisunique initiativeresultedinanindepthreviewoftheusercommunitybusinessrequirementsrelatedtoADWEAutilitynetwork.Asetof sevendatamodelsareextractedthroughADWEAutilitydatatorepresentthedataofAbuDhabiandAlAinwaterandelectrical distribution,TransmissionWaterandPowerNetworkandseweragecollectionsysteminADSDIGISportal.ThesimplifiedUtility DataModelisconsideredasthebaselineforbenchmarkingthegrowthofthismodelinthefuturebasedontheexpansionofthe SDIGISportalusabilitybytheADSDIcommunitysutilityinterestgroups. DevelopingTheMetadataStandards:Whichcompriseofasetofmetadatadescribingtheutilitydatawithrelationtothe informationrelatedtothedatasuchastheModificationorUpdatedateofthedatacomponents,thesourcesofthedataand otherspecificmandatoryinformationmaintainedbyADWEAtofurtherenhancetheusabilityofitsutilitydatabytheADSDI community. DocumentingUtilityDataStandards:whichweredevelopedbasedontheexistingADWEAutilitydatastandardswhichwere initiallydevelopedalongasetofrecognizedstandardsutilizedwithintheutilityGISinternationally.TheADWEAutilityData standardspresentavaluabledatadictionarywhichprovidesthedefinitionofeachfeaturewithinthecorrespondingutilitydata set,correlatingthephysicalpropertiesofthefeaturesaspartofanactivecomponentinutilitynetworkservingtheADWEA customersinAbuDhabi.
