The 1st NCVMS National Veterinary Students Scientific Conference

Greetings! The National Congress of Veterinary Medicine Students (NCVMS), the first and only uniting organization of veterinary students of the Philippines, is in pursuit to perform its noble objectives and responsibilities to the veterinary students, to the society, and to the nation. The NCVMS will hold its 10 Annual Convention and Scientific Conference on February 13 to 15, 2014 with the theme Gearing towards Global Competitiveness and Timely Innovations. The University of the Philippines Los Baos- College of Veterinary Medicine is the host of next years convention. In conjunction with this, the NCVMS will hold the National Veterinary Students Scientific Conference (NVVSC). We would like to invite your students to be part of this event. Attached herewith are the details and guidelines of the scientific conference.

1.What: National Veterinary Students Scientific Conference (NVSSC) Guidelines 2. When: February 15, 2013, Saturday, 8:00 am 3. Where: ADSC-CVM Communal Building- UP CVM 4. How to join: a. All veterinary schools may join the said event b. The School must choose one representative student and one representative adviser/judge. The school will confirm the name of representative via an Endorsement letter from the Dean/College Secretary of the College. The school must submit the names on or before December 13, 2013 to Mr. Jonathan Dave Ubia, Head of NCVMS Scientific Conference ( thandave@gmail.com and contact number: 09064893606) c. The student and coach will choose a case study. The definition of the case study is any clinico-pathological case. (Note: NOT thesis or part of thesis work. Published as a manuscript or a thesis work in progress) Example: 1. Mycosis in Breeder flock, Lateral Ear Resection in a 4 year old Male Castrated Chiuahua 2. A case of Equine Infectious Anemia in a 2 year Old Thoroughbred 3. Anthracosis in a 5 year old Anglo Nubian goat d. The representative must submit a written report in publishable format: Abstract Case Presentation(history, signalment, chief complaint) Differential and Tentative/Definitive Diagnosis Treatment Discussion Recommendations

(Note: The NVSSC committee will pre-evaluate the case reports submitted as acceptable. The school representatives may submit 2 reports and the committee will choose the better one. If both is not good enough, then, the school will be informed that none of the papers submitted qualified after pre-evaluation).

Prior to the scientific conference, the coach/student representative will give the soft copy via e-mail or CD (flash disks are not allowed) containing the PowerPoint one week before the convention. 8. Contest Proper: a. The student will present his/her case study for 10 minutes b. Another 10 minutes will be given for questions from the crowd (5 minutes for the students and 5 minutes for the professor/faculty/judges) c. 10.Judging: a. The presenters will be judge according to the following parameters: Scoring scale 5: Excellent; 4: Very good; 3: Satisfactory; 2: Poor; 1: Unsatisfactory A. Did the speakers voice, poise and eye contact made a favorable impression? B. Does the speaker have a smooth and clear delivery? C. Is the speaker dressed appropriately? D. Did the presentation have logical organization? E. Was it made clear what was done and how it was done? F. Did the presenter use appropriate visual aids? G. Did the presenter demonstrate adequate knowledge of the subject or case? H. Was the presenter able to answer the questions fully & clearly? I. Did the presenter use the time provided wisely? J. b. Score system All the coaches will serve as judges too. Each will be given a score sheet which includes the above parameters for judging and the name of the students. The student will be given an automatic/default score of 50 pts in the score sheet of his/her own coach. Also, the lowest score given by other judges will be cancelled out.
