I shrieked and woke up from the nightmare. It felt real. It was like everything that happened four years ago was happening again.

My face was sweating and I was breathing heavily. My lungs tried to expand and drink the air. I am going to die, I thought as my hand trembled heavily.

I shivered, and clutched the blanket and my hood close to my body.

My mind began to relive those painful days, every moment still clear and perfect, still unfazed and obvious, but still cruel and hurtful those days I had blocked for years. But the dream triggered the memory and I couldn't stop it from playing inside my mind.

I sat there in the swing, biting my nails thinking what Asher would say if he saw me doing this. I smiled to myself. He was so controlling.

I looked at my watch and found it was past 8.10, where was he? I ran to his house only to find he was gone. I couldn't stop my tears from spilling out. I sobbed sitting on the doorsteps.

He thought that I was ugly and he wanted to stop being my friend, I hugged Aunt Carrie and she patted my back.

Honey bee, his memory power is weak, she assured, I nodded and walked away, but I knew something was wrong; he never forgot picking me for school. That ball of bitterness was rising slowly and it clogged my windpipe as I reached the school.

I saw him hanging with Britta, and some other popular girls who loved to

humiliate me. My face fell. I waved at him, but he turned away, and the girls sneered at me.

Go away loser, you don't belong here, Britta crowed and I did go away; I had no strength to fight back. Why did I want to fight anyway, my only friend had left me for them And to be honest I couldn't ever fight with them, I was shy and a coward.

The whole first period was wasted inside the girl's bathroom. Sidney came to me and gently patted me. I had never seen her before, but she was there with me during the hardest part of my life.

I curled into my blanket, thinking about Asher. That night I didn't go to dinner.

I cried the whole night, and the next day, I couldn't open my eyes. I was burning up and I was falling in and out of consciousness. Whenever I woke up, my eyes tried to search for one face, but when they found that the one person wasn't there, they would automatically close, and I would fall into darkness again.

My fever didn't go away, and I was burning for days. The doctor had assured everyone that I didn't have any problems. My family was confused.

I had completely shut myself down, I was silent, and I didn't talk for days, even after I had started going to school again.

Sidney was the only company I had during those days. She gave me comfort and hope. When I was crying on her shoulder, I felt my pains slowly go away, but when she left, they came back with a full force. It shattered my brittle heart.

Pain was not bearable to that 13 year old girl. She was devastated and completely broken.

When my mom asked what was wrong with me, I said nothing. My family began to freak out. They thought I was infected by some disease. They brought me to a doctor; and when the doctor said nothing was wrong with me, they were relieved, but still a little worried. What if I had some unknown disease? They debated and discussed. Asher didn't visit me the whole time. He was completely out of my reach now.

The only person I talked was Sid. She held me whenever I broke apart.

Whenever I saw Asher, my heart would give a painful tug. I thought that I was going die because this was the sign of a heart attack, but, to my displeasure, I didn't. Three weeks had passed since Asher became a stranger to me. I would hide myself inside the secret cave in the park whenever I felt lonely. I would even pretend that my shadow was Asher, and talk with it, but in the end all I could do was cry.
