Q: Tell me about Blasting & Painting Process? Ans. Check surface to be blasted for the presence of oil and grease (if present solvent cleaning as per SSPC SP-2 standard)

Check blasting equipments condition, blotter test (no oil), and air pressure (90PSI), check abrasive condition (no contamination and free from oil and grease) etc

If above tests are accepted allow blasting to carry out

After blasting completion inspection and testing is required prior to paint which is visual inspection of blasted surface, its profile checking, salt test

If above tests are found in acceptable condition apply primer on blasted surface with in 4 hour, check before applying primer proper material, proper mixing, and proper application.

After primer application let the paint dry as per paint manufacturer data sheet recommendation Inspection and testing of primer which is visual inspection and DFT checking as per SSPC PA-2 standard.

If above inspection and testing found in accepted condition apply mid coat with in the recoat interval. Check before applying mid coat proper material, proper mixing, and proper application.

After mid coat application let the paint dry as per paint manufacturer data sheet recommendation Inspection and testing of mid coat which is visual inspection and DFT checking as per SSPC PA-2 standard.

If above inspection and testing found in accepted condition apply top coat with in the recoat interval. Check before applying top coat proper material, proper mixing, and proper application.

After final coat application let the paint dry as per paint manufacturer data sheet recommendation Final Inspection and testing of final coat which is visual inspection and DFT checking as per SSPC PA-2 standard.

Now item is released from painting for further activities.

Q: what is blotter test? Ans. Blotter test is used for compressed air quality checking. Acceptance criteria no oil. If oil is found repairing of oil and moisture trap is required after repair retesting until no oil. Q. What is visual inspection? Ans. Visual inspection is visual appearance of painted surface. Acceptance criteria is no paint defects like sagging, pinholes etc. if any defects are found need to be rectified and re-inspection. Q. What is salt test? Ans. Salt test is used to know the level of soluble salt present after blasting. Acceptance criteria is less than 5microgram/cm. If more than 5microgram is present water washing of blasted surface-reblastingretesting until it comes less than 5microgram/cm.
