Orient Craft, which has acquired the prestigious recognition of a Four Star Expo rt House by the Govt.

of India, is one of India's leading garment manufacturi ng and exporting houses with the annual turnover of Rs. 650 Crores for the year 2004-2005 and is expected to touch 750 Crores in the current financial year. Ori ent Craft today has 19 state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in and around D elhi, with a direct strength of 20,000 people.

Orient Craft Ltd plans to develop an exclusive special economic zone (SEZ) for g arment units in Andhra Pradesh. The SEZ is likely to come up on a 300-acre plot with an estimated investment of Rs 2,000 crore. "The SEZ will house up to 50 com panies," said Mr Sudhir Dhingra.

Orient Craft, one of India?s largest garment exporters, has acquired a Levi?s pl ant in Spain for Rs 60 crore. Orient exports to a wide range of international bu yers such as Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, Gap, Susan Bristol, Nike, Levi?s and Dockers.

The machinery from the newly acquired plant will form part of the company?s expa nsion plan at Manesar, near Gurgaon. Mr. Dhingra said, ?The state-of-the-art eq uipment in the plant is comparable to the best global standards. Its induction i n the Indian textile industry could give new dimensions to garment manufacturing .?

Levi?s was looking for a buyer due to high maintenance and labour costs in Spain . The company?s deal with Levi?s is the second such significant international ve nture. Earlier, Orient came up on the global radar when it started its first ove rseas facility in New York two years ago.

At present, Orient has 20 production units spread across Gurgaon, Noida and Okhl a in Delhi. The expansion plan envisages setting up of two new facilities at Man esar.

The company expects the expansion plans to boost its revenue generation. Mr Dhin gra estimates the annual turnover to be in the excess of Rs 800 crore, growing b y over one-fourth from last year.

The $6 billion Li & Fung has planned to shift sourcing to India and Orient Craft , which has been supplying to them for the last couple of years would be a major beneficiary
