Unsung Hero Award - Catholic Charities San Antonio RSVP volunteer Sean Habina was honored this past summer with United Way of San Antonio & Bexar Countys Unsung Hero Award for her extreme dedication to volunteerism. "Now that you've got'em what comes next? Sustaining Volunteer Involvement Over Time" - Webinar presented by Susan Ellis, President, Energize, Inc. Catholic Charities of Onondaga County Sets New Standard for Volunteers - Volunteer season begins but new regulations may cause volunteers to turn away. The Catholic Charities of Onondaga County are now asking for volunteers to fill out extensive paperwork, attend a three hour orientation, be finger printed and undergo background checks. The agency has a long time standing tradition of depending on volunteers of the community to help others in need. But staff members are disagreeing on whether it discourages volunteers from wanting to participate. Registration for Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA) - The Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration sponsors the CVA credential, the only international professional certification in the field of volunteer resources management. Volunteer Recognition LAST CALL - Promote the work of your volunteers who serve the vulnerable in life (unborn, terminally ill, frail elderly, severly disabled, etc.) in Charities USA the magazine. The deadline for submission is November 19. For more information on nominating a volunteer, email Matthew Price. Catholic Charities USA created an award certificate template for agencies to honor volunteers. This award certificate expresses gratitude from CCUSA CEO/President Fr. Larry Snyder on behalf of the entire network. To access the

award certificate template, email Matthew Price. Resource Library The resources from the old Catholic Charities USA website have been moved over to a third party website - Scribd. Browse forms, policies and training materials. This morning, attendees from the VMN will be browsing the website identifying deficits in the library. A call for resources will be announced at the end of the month. Networking Coffee Break - The Coffee Break session was a success. Over 15 folks from around the country discussed Innovative Recruitment Techniques. Review the discussion topics in the notes. The next session will be in January. Stay tuned for the next topic. LinkedIn group - As of today, we have 26 folks who have joined the group! Log-in to your LinkedIn account, click this link and click join in the upper right corner. We will begin creating sub-groups based on size next week. Demographic breakdown - We have 73 completed Agency Volunteer Profile surveys! This survey will be used to identify sub-groups of members that share similar roles and responsibilities. Survey respondents will identify how they want to be networked. Further breakdowns will take place as we comb through the data and notice trends. VMN News Calling Future Leaders - The VMN Steering Committee is seeking nominations and applications to join the steering committee. If you would like to nominate someone, please email Estela Bugg. To learn more, review the benefits and responsibilities of being a steering committee member as well as the application. The deadline is December 16. Newsletter changes - Carol Spiker ("Spike"), a member of the steering committee, is the point person for the newsletter. The newsletter is disseminated on the 15th of each month. If you have articles/information that would benefit the Network, please send them to Spike.
