THANKSGIVING ~ STEWARDSHIP ACCIN DE GRACIAS ~ ADMINISTRACIN

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His Love is everlasting!
Psalm 118:29

Salmo 118:29

"Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave; just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."
Matthew 20:26-28

Mateo 20:26-28

Mass Schedule

Stewardship challenges us to live counter-culturally, anchored in the Gospel message and wholly cognizant that in only living as our model steward, Jesus, we will find hope, true freedom, and lasting joy and peace.

God has blessed us and the ways in which we have been blessed through the gifts and talents of others; Invites us to help discern, call forth, and continually encourage one another to use the gifts and talents with which God has blessed us according to Gods will; and Challenges us to share our time, talent and treasure beyond what we believe we can do or give so we can grow, individually and collectively, as God desires. WE ARE CALLED By virtue of our baptism, we are called to be Gods disciples and are invited to do Christs work on earth. As disciples, we are granted all of the tools necessary to bring the light, hope and love of God to others. WE ARE DISCIPLES Our relationship with God is strengthened through prayer. In allowing ourselves to be transformed by this relationship, we have the ability to transformto give flesh to God in this world and help Gods kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. We are asked to share our gift of faith with others and to be missionaries in the ordinariness of our everyday lives. WE ARE GIFTED As Gods creation, we reflect Gods love and vision for humanity. We each are blessed with unique gifts and talents. In fact, all we have is a gift, all we are is a giftour very life is a gift. We are asked to be responsible managers of our gifts, utilizing them in a faith-filled spirit of generosity to help fulfill Gods mission on earth. WE ARE JUST We are asked to love to be in right relationship with God, ourselves, our neighbors, and our world by giving practical expression to Gospel values and tangibly witnessing to Gods miraculous love. We have been told what is good and what God asks of us: To live justly, to love tenderly, to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8 Stewardship is a way of life, a way of recognizing all of ones gifts, being grateful for these gifts, and giving back in gratitude. When considering a gift of financial resources, Stewardship invites us to pray about our use of money and then invites us to make planned and proportionate gifts. In reflecting upon Jesus life we are granted numerous examples of Stewardship. We see in Jesus his total emptying of self. We see a man listening for and heeding Gods call, a man who sacrificed his life for a greater good. Jesus asks us to give him our lives, to love as he loved, to share freely and generously and from the heart as did the poor widow who gave little, yet gave everything. This week I invite you to reflect upon your use of money and your gifts of financial resources to Saint John the Baptist and other charities of your choice. A key component of Stewardship is the interior change that takes place when a person internalizes the magnitude of the love God the Giver and Owner has for us. Once that is recognized, giving freely and generously is a natural response. Only you will know the amount of that gift, the gift that will change you, that will be granted from your first fruits, not from what is left over. I invite you to pray about this and to give back to Godsacrificiallyas God has given to us. No one shall appear before the Lord empty-handed, but each of you with as much as they can give, in proportion to the blessings which the Lord, your God, has bestowed on you.
DEUTERONOMY 16: 16-17

IN THANKSGIVING FOR EACH OTHER AND OUR PARISH COMMUNITY We thank You, God our Father, for the gift of Jesus Your Son who came to our earth and lived in a simple home. We have a greater appreciation of the value and dignity of the human family because He loved and was loved within its shelter. Bless us and our humble Parish of Saint John the Baptist; may we grow in love for each other in our family and so give thanks to You who are the maker of all human families and our abiding peace.

Statement of Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon, Bishop of the Diocese of Joliet in Illinois, Regarding the Redefinition of Civil Marriage in Illinois
JOLIET, ILToday, I stand in unison with my fellow Catholic Bishops and other clergy expressing my disappointment in the redefinition of civil marriage in Illinois. The Catholic Church deeply values and cherishes marriage, as a union between a man and a woman. When Pope Francis addressed a similar situation as Archbishop of Buenos Aires in June, 2010, he wrote The Argentine people must face, in the next few weeks, a situation whose result may gravely harm the family. It is the bill on matrimony of persons of the same sex. The identity of the family, and its survival, are in jeopardy here: father, mother, and children. The life of so many children who will be discriminated beforehand due to the lack of human maturity that God willed them to have a father and a mother is in jeopardy. A clear rejection of the law of God, engraved in our hearts, is in jeopardyLet us not be nave: it is not a simple political struggle; it is an intention [which is] destructive of the plan of God. It is not a mere legislative project (this is a mere instrument), but rather a move of the father of lies who wishes to confuse and deceive the children of God. (Father of lies refers to the devil, as mentioned by Jesus in the Gospel of John.) While this new law redefines marriage for the state, it does nothing to change what is revealed to us by God for the good of human society. Communications from the Bishop Campaign for Human Development Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Holy Rosary Credit Union is taking poverty off the map in the heart of the country in Kansas City, Missouri. Started in 1943 by Italian immigrants, the not-for-profit credit union extends development and financial education services geared toward the low-income population of Kansas City. With help from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) Collection, the credit union encourages thrift, savings, and the wise use of credit for individuals and small businesses. It teaches its members how to manage and control their finances, helping move them into financial stability and out of poverty. Holy Rosary abides by Catholic social principles to serve seven parishes and bases its outreach on Christs example of love for the poor. This Collection is the primary source of funding for CCHDs anti-poverty grants and education programs. Collection proceeds have provided access to invaluable resources for those who struggle in poverty and have made positive impacts throughout the United States. Through CCHD the Catholic Church is working to continue the Churchs tradition. Help us get poverty off the map once and for all. Defend human dignity. Take poverty off the map. Support CCHD in the upcoming Collection. Please remember, 25% of the Collections proceeds stay here in our diocese to fight poverty in our communities and defend the dignity of our neighbors. For more information about the Collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and the groups it funds, please visit www.usccb.org and search CCHD Collection Resources. God bless you. Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon, Bishop of Joliet

CATHOLICS FOR LIFE Why does the Church feel strongly about religious liberty in health care? "The Church has long opposed the use of artificial contraception, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs (called abortifacients). On this it has been 'clear, consistent, and public,' even those who disagree with it understand that it is based on a long-held and carefully thought out view of human love that deserves a hearing in the public square -especially one that is so torn by infidelity, sexual abuse, objectification of women, and divorce. (Religious Liberty and Catholics, Our Sunday Visitor) "The Church cannot, even reluctantly, provide information, make arrangements for, facilitate, counsel, or instruct people on how to obtain these immoral procedures. To do so would be to participate in the violation of the moral law and thus to act against conscience," wrote Bishop William E. Lori, in explaining the Church's opposition.
