<Timeline>
1965 - UC Irvine was established 1965 - One of the oldest continuously operating medical college in the Southwest, California College of Medicine became part of UC Irvine. 1976 - Purchased Orange County Medical Center (Renamed the UC Irvine Medical Center) 1989 - Water Polo team wins National Championship 1995 - Professor Frank Sherwood Rowland (Chemistry) and Frederick Reines (Physics) win the Nobel Prize. 2001 - Planted a bay laurel tree in remembrance of the heroes and victims of the events of September 11, 2001 in Aldrich Park. 2004 - Professor Irwin Rose wins the Nobel Prize (Chemistry) 2009 - Henry W. Sobel received Bruno Pontecorvo Prize for his work on Neutrino Oscillations. 2011 - UC Irvine awarded 8443 degrees. 2013 - Construction for new Paul Merage School of Business building begins.

<Scholarship>
UC Irvine Merit-Based Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to entering freshmen who demonstrate a high level of academic achievement as demonstrated on their high school GPA as reported on the admissions application, SAT (or ACT) scores, personal statements, and depth and breadth of the admissions application. Three types of Merit-Based scholarships The Regents Scholarships, Henry Samueli Endowed Scholarship UCI Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship.

Awarded to freshmen based on a combination of academic achievement and financial need, as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. <Housing>
1. Mesa Court Only for freshmen Mesa Court has 29 residence halls, with living room, small kitchen, and laundry Facilities. Rooms are clustered in single-gender suites with common space for studying or socializing 2. Middle Earth Only for freshmen Centrally located just off of Ring Road between Social Science and Engineering Middle Earth has 24 residence halls with living room, small kitchen, and laundry facilities Rooms are grouped into suites with common space for studying or socializing.

3. Arroyo Vista Serving continuing undergraduates and transfer students. Each house is home to 16, 24, or 32 residents who live in double occupancy rooms and share a large kitchen, living room, and study room. Some houses offer a two-room suite (for 2 students). Residents prepare their own meals or purchase a voluntary meal plan for use in residence hall dining facilities. Shuttle bus service provides easy access to the campus core, or if you want some fresh air, it's about a 10-15 minute walk. 4. Campus Village Centrally located next to the Science Library

In 2013-14, Campus Village will have 588 undergraduate spaces and 96 graduate spaces (in a separate section of the community).

Apartments have two-bedrooms and one-bathroom. Undergraduates share double occupancy bedrooms, with four students in each apartment

Each apartment has a living room, kitchen, dining area, and either a patio or balcony.

The Campus Village Community Center offers a fitness center, game room, and computer lab.

5. ACC Apartment Communities The four ACC Apartment Communities, privately operated by American Campus Communities, are located on the east side of campus Furnished apartments with internet and cable television service 12 month leases: Aug Aug, Sept Sept, or June June Utility costs included in the rent (with a cap on electricity) Shuttle bus service to the campus core Single and double occupancy bedrooms (doubles available in Vista del Campo Norte and Puerta del Sol only Four types of ACC Apartment Communities I.
