General Ledger Interview Questions in R12

1) Can a flexfield qualifier be changed after it has been created? ns) No. Once a segment qualifier has been designated for a specific segment and has been saved, it will permanently have the attributes with that qualifier. For example, you accidentally designate the cost center segment as the natural account segment. Even though you do not compile this, the system saves the changes. And once it has been saved, it will have all the attributes designated for the natural account qualifier, even after it has been changed bac , resaved with the correct qualifier and compiled. !his is the inherent functionality of the software. "nfortunately, there is no real easy solution for this issue. !he only option is to create a new chart of accounts and attach a new set of boo s. 2) !ow to delete a seg"ent value? ns) !here is no supported way to delete a segment value. #egment values can only be disabled not deleted. #) Is there a wa$ to load values for a s%ecific seg"ent outside of the for"? ns) i#etup is the Oracle product that provides supported A$%s to load values into Oracle Applications flexfields. !o load code combinations A&% may be used. "ploading 'ero amount (ournals will create new code combinations. %n this case &ynamic %nsertion should be enabled and all account segment values need to exist before the new account code combinations will be dynamically created.

9uestion5 ,hat does -FF $eanF Ans$er5 -FF is a $echanis$ that lets us create new fields in screens that are delivered by ?racle.

9uestion5 ?h good, but can these new fields be added without $odifying9custo$i@ation of the screenF. Ans$er5 Ces, certainly. ?nly so$e setup is needed, but no progra$$atic change is needed to setup -FF. 9uestion5 ,hy the word -escriptive in Ga$e -FFF Ans$er5 B thin% ?racle used this ter$inology because by $eans of setup...you are describing the structure of these new fields. ?r $ay be ?racle si$ply used a silly word to distinguish -FF fro$ EFF.discussed in latter training lesson1. 9uestion5 5re these -FF&s fle ibleF Ans$er5 5 little fle ible, for e a$ple, depending upon the value in a field, we can $a%e either Field1 or Field2 to appear in -FF. 9uestion5 "o we create new fields in e isting screen, but why the need of doing soF Ans$er5 ?racle delivers a standard set of fields for each screen, but different custo$ers have different needs, hence ?racle lets us create new fields to the screen. 9uestion5 5re these new fields that get created as a result of -FF free te tF B $ean, can end user enter any +un% into the new fields that are added via -FFF Ans$er5 Bf you attach a value set to the field.at ti$e of setup of dff1, then field will no longer be free te t. The entered value in the field will be validated, also a list of valid values will be provided in L?<. 9uestion : ,ill the values that get entered by the user in dff fields be updated to databaseF Ans$er: Bndeed, this happens because for each field that you create using -FF will be $apped to a colu$n in ?racle 5pplications. 9uestion: Can B create a -FF on any database colu$nF Ans$er: Got really. ?racle delivers a predefined list of colu$ns for each table that are $eant for -FF usage. ?nly those colu$ns can be $apped to -FF seg$ents. These colu$ns are na$ed si$ilar to 5TT*B8:T61, 5TT*B8:T62, 5TT*B8:T6! 6TC. :sually ?racle provides upto 1) colu$ns, but this nu$ber can vary. 9uestion5 Can B add hundreds of fields to a given screenF Ans$er5 This depends on the nu$ber of attribute colu$ns in the table that screen uses. 5lso, those colu$ns $ust be flagged as -FF enabled in -FF *egistration screen. -on&t need to worry $uch about this because all the 5TT*B8:T6 colu$ns are by default flagged for their -FF usage. 9uestion5 D$$$, B can see that -FFs are related to table and colu$ns... Ans$er5 Ces correct. 6ach -FF is $apped to one table. 5nd also each seg$ent.or call it field1 is $apped to one of the attribute colu$ns in that table. 9uestion5 B want these fields to appear in screen only when certain conditions are $et. Bs it possibleF Ans$er5 Ces, we have so$ething %nown as Conte t "ensitive -escriptive Fle fields.
