I currently serve as superintendent of schools for Pulaski County, and I have served as a teacher, principal, and university professor. In 2006, Governor Timothy Kaine appointed me to serve on the State Board of Education, and while serving on the Board I took the lead on adding school safety and student support as a measured component of the Boards Comprehensive Plan. I also strongly supported imposing measures to ensure statewide accountability for student dropouts, the expansion of the Governors STEM Academies, and providing the necessary state resources needed for improving local graduation rates. My experience also includes serving on a wide variety of educationrelated boards, which has given me the opportunity to work with key stakeholder groups at all levels of Virginias educational system.
