Get Covered America and Durham CAN plan to reach over 3,000 people in massive outreach effort
150 volunteers to go around Durham neighborhoods educating residents about the Health Insurance Marketplace DURHAM, NC Durhamites who have questions about coverage options on the Health Insurance Marketplace will get help on Saturday as Get Covered America campaign and Durham Congregations, Associations and Neighborhoods (CAN) have recruited and will train 150 volunteers to educate them. Get Covered America will train volunteers on the Affordable Care Act and canvassing techniques at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 9am. Aiming to reach over 3,000 on Saturday, the volunteers will knock on doors and give out information to Durham residents who live in three different voter precincts (5, 7, 8). They will direct people in need of in person assistance in checking their options and enrolling to the Legal Aid of Durham and Lincoln Community Health Center navigator teams that will be stationed at Immaculate Conception Church and Lyon Park. Navigators will be available from 9:00 to 1:00 PM Durham CAN is a non-partisan, multi-ethnic, multi-issue organization of 30+ congregations, community associations and neighborhoods who work together to address public issues that affect the wellbeing of families and neighborhoods in Durham County. CAN is a broad-based citizens' organization committed to promoting justice and democratic values. We work to develop leaders and to provide opportunities for member institutions to negotiate effectively through the political process with local government and community leaders around issues of common concern. Durham CAN is strictly non-partisan. Get Covered America is a national campaign of Enroll America that is focused on educating consumers about the benefits of health insurance coverage and the new health care options that will be made available under the Affordable Care Act.
