Jessica and Howard Steller opened Picassos at 21277 State Route 22, Hoosick Falls, NY, in the former location of Bakers Nursery, the first week in August. 518Their grand opening was August 9 to 11. Business has been really steady since then, 854-7041 said Jessica. They want people to stop in to Picassos, create their own sandwich or salad or ice ream mix-ins and sit back and relax. In the summer time, picnic tables outside help make relaxation inevitable. There is a cozy dining room for eating inside if the weather is cool or rainy. Otherwise, half the pleasure of eating at Picassos is sitting outdoors. Picassos is more than just a place to eat, it is a destination, said Howard. Picassos menu offers a variety of interesting wraps, sandwiches, panini and salads. In addition, they encourage customers to create their own ideas for a sandwich or salad. They want their customers to be like Picasso and express their creativity, except they want them to do it with what they eat. Menu ideas are on display. On one wall they have a long list of combinations for mixins to add to the ice cream. And they mean mix-in. The ice cream is placed on a marble slab and the fruits and/or candies are mixed right in before it is put in a cone or a dish. Jessica is proud to say they use all fresh local products, and she makes everything but the ice cream from scratch. Thanks to the previous owners creativity, there is a lovely little pond and waterfall fountain with a seating area that is just perfect for relaxing while eating. In other areas there are Adirondack style chairs and picnic tables. The couple expect next year they will create some gardens in the area and add more picnic tables. The Stellers have transported their llamas down to the property where they now live and are on display for all to enjoy. Folks will be able to view them before, after, or, while they enjoy their meal Picassos has been a dream of the Stellers for many years, but their situation was not quite right until now. Picassos is open Sunday from 10-6, MondayTuesday 10-7, Wednesday 10-2, Thursday-Saturday 10-8. They know they will be open for the fall HFCS game season for sure, and they are currently working on a winter hours schedule. Picassos is on Facebook or the restaurant can be reached at 518-659-6068.

THE CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT- The Highlight Acting Troupe is proud to present The Christmas Ornament written by Ron LeVan and adapted by Kathryn Capalbo. The show is directed by Kathryn Capalbo with Andrew Osterhout and Steve Salhoff assisting and accompanist Marietta Mitchell. The time is the 1990's, the place is New York City. Everywhere you look is the feeling of Christmas. We bring you the story of Donald and Beverly, two bums, living on the streets who decide to get married. You will meet their fellow friends who will try to help them do just that. Also, there is a story of an orphanage and how the director of the orphanage is trying to help each child feel that they are loved, especially their newest orphan who needs some extra special care. All along the way the story is filled with songs. This show is in special memory of the late Ron LeVan. He loved creating each show but the Christmas Shows held a special place in his heart. Brunswick Grange, Rt.7 and Rt. 142 (behind Stewart's) on Fri., Dec. 6 and Sat. Dec. 7 at 7:30 pm and Sun, Dec. 8 at 2 pm. Ticket prices $10 for adults and $5 for seniors & students. ON THE FARM
by Andy Manne
The Obama administration proposed, on November 18th, a reduced quota for the amount of renewable fuel that refiners must use next year, bowing to industry complaints that the targets contained in 2007 legislation were too high. In a draft rule, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said it would wait until Spring to issue a specific quota, though said it would be in a range of 15 billion to 15.52 billion gallons for renewable fuels such as corn ethanol and biodiesel from soybeans, according to a document posted on the EPAs website. That compares with 18.15 billion gallons set in the legislation. The range is in line with an August draft that was leaked and prompted intense lobbying from industry officials. Overall, the proposal, which is set to be finalized in the first quarter of 2014, would reduce demand for corn-based ethanol and lower compliance costs for refiners such as Valero Energy Corp. and Tesoro Corp. "While the agency took a step in the right direction, more must be done," said Jack Gerard, the chief executive of the American Petroleum Institute, the Washington-based group that represents companies such as Exxon Mobil Corp. "They are getting close to making sure they dont breach us through the blend wall." Cellulosic Products The agency also proposed a range for the mandate for biodiesel and cellulosic products, such as those made from corn stalks or woody waste, which would be somewhere from 2 billion gallons to 2.5 billion gallons. Thats below the 3.75 billion gallon target spelled out in the legislation, and compares to 2.21 billion gallons from the leaked draft. This "could significantly chill investments in advanced biofuels projects," Brent Erickson, executive vice president of Biotechnology Industry Organization, said in a statement. "We will focus over the immediate comment period on convincing the administration to right the course on this policy." EPA officials say they are listening to those concerns and have pledged to preserve a market for what are dubbed "next generation fuels." In presenting a range, the agency would allow outside groups to weigh in over the next two months prior to a final EPA decision. Advanced biofuel, such as biodiesel and Brazilian ethanol, is part of a larger program for renewable fuels that is anchored by corn-based ethanol. Corn growers and the ethanol industry pushing for an increase in the 13 billion-gallon quota called for in the leaked August plan, which is below the 14.4 billion gallons in the law. The EPA has the ability to adjust the quotas in response to market pressures. Chicken Farmers Refiners, fast-food restaurants, motorboat makers and chicken farmers have all pushed the EPA to scale back the ethanol mandate, saying it risks ruining engines by forcing more ethanol to be blended into gasoline and is acting to push up demand for corn. Gasoline demand is falling, and so rising requirements for renewable fuels are ramping up the percentage of those fuels in the overall mix.
