SOME LANGUAGE GAMES

1. BINGO
Activity Aim Language : Listening : To play a game of Bingo and to recognise the past simple form of irregular verbs as the verbs are called. : Past simple forms of irregular verbs

No. of Players : One caller and any number of players ( or large classes! students can be divided into groups of "#$ % &uration (aterials : $#'$ minutes : (a)e copies of the Bingo cards for each player ( or for each group % and a copy of the verb grid for the caller ( see overleaf %.

&escription of *ame : '. The players! each have a card ruled into a number of sections. +ach section contains the past simple form of irregular verb. +ach player,s ( or group,s% card is different from those of the others. -. The caller calls out the verbs from the grid! each only once. ( .hile calling out the verbs! the caller can tic) the verbs to )eep a record of the verbs that have been called out%. /. 0f a player has the simple past form of the verb called out! he crosses the bo1 belo2 it. The first player to get a hori3ontal or vertical or diagonal line of crosses! shouts 4 B0N*O566 and he is the 2inner. 0n order to prolong the game! you can get the players to shout 4B0N*O566 only after they have crossed out all the 2ords in their cards. ". .hen a player shouts 4B0N*O5 the caller must as) the player to read out the infinitives of the verbs ( base form of the verb% to chec) that these have actually been called.

2. CHARADE
Activity Aim Language : Listening! spea)ing and acting out : To play a game of 7harade and to mime out a sentence given. : All types of 2ords

No. of Players : Any number of players divided into - groups &uration (aterials : -8 minutes : 9trips of paper containing sentences ( 2hich is possible to be mime out and suitable for players, level of proficiency% are rolled up and placed into a small bag.

A player from the first group ( say *roup A% begins the game by pic)ing a strip of paper from the bag and reading it. :e then mimes it out to his group 2ithin a set time limit ( say ' minute%. (+.g of sentences. The fat boy is crying. An old 2oman is carrying a heavy bas)et% /. 0f his group manages to guess the sentence 2ithin the time limit! the group is a2arded a mar). But! if the group fails to guess! the other group (*roup B% is given an opportunity to guess. *roup B gets a mar) if they manage to guess correctly. ".
